Well, you should know there is a world of difference between a rally car and the EVO or WRX you see on a dealer's lot. Suspension, mainly. The rally cars don't make a whole lot more power, but the suspension and chassis is nothing like a street car.

I'd suggest you get out to a local racetrack, either a dragstrip or a road course and see what happens for yourself. You'll be able to walk through the pits and talk to the drivers about their cars. Those guys aren't trying to sell you something and aren't trying to attract viewers so you'll hear the real story and see the results for yourself. Not only is it a good time but it also may conflict a little with what you read in magazines or see on TV shows.

Yep, that's what I would expect to see from Euros.

In America, a POS K car would whack the shit outta those guys:

beating 2 M3's

NOT TO mention the advantage goes to the M3's due to the rolling starts. Evo's acceleration off the line is unreal.

I'm a big time turbo AWD guy, but they usually are laughable when put up against legit RWD cars.

Frantic - You obviously didn't watch the video, the Evo is a fucking rally car it's better than almost any other car on the turns and corners. The Evo in the video that was fucking the lambo up was not modded out.

lol @ "not modded out"

You don't have to mod that Evo when it's already been done for you and costs $80k.

I don't know what your talking about? Stock Evo brand new from the dealership are around 30k-35k, they keep up with lambos just fine.

Apparently not. The car in that video is an Evo VIII FQ400. A special edition with over 400hp and not a stock Evo that you can get for $35k.

This is a perfect example of what happens when you bring out a truly bad ass 4 cylinder street car. You'll have a shit run and get waxed, then you'll have a perfect run and it will be a good race:

LOL......you mean after you posted about 10 of them?

Have any of you guys ever had to work on a mitsubishi lancer with over 60,000 miles?

It's no fun at all.

Can they even make it that far without using up 4 clutches, 3 center differentials and two rear differentials?

The shop where I work would rather do peugeot warranty claims than work on one because of the trail of broken parts these cars leave.

Once you get deep into the 10s, awd does nothing for you since most cars that fast lift the front wheels off of the track.

Sure the lancer evo is a capable car but current type rally cars are watered down shells of what they were back in 1986.

My main problem is that chrysler capitalized on the success of Lancia evos by resurrecting the dead lancer name and putting "evo" after it much like chevrolet is reusing names like L88 or Lt1 or Ls6 which were famous engines of the past.

I also have a problem with fanboys who have zero knowledge hero worshipping a car because of it's reputation when, if they knew all that was going on underneath, they would find it damn normal and pedestrian compared to the cars that preceeded it like the ford RS200, the Audi Quattro sport, the peugeot 405 t-16.

The fastest lancer evo up pikes peak took 1:47 longer to get to the top than the current suzuki record holder.

I'm am just trying to balance out Frantic's endless hyping of the evo by providing a counterpoint.

lol, I cant help it I love that car.

But I fully understand it's not the best car in the world.

Is the Pikes peak record holder the Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak?

I'm sure they drove that Evo to the track, yanked the headlights, threw them in the trunk, made a few runs, and then reinstalled them before driving it home with the stereo bumping and AC cranked.
