I'm entering the third year of my PhD in Biochemistry. I still have another 2-3 years to go, but I feel that I should be thinking about my options from now.

Anyone here with a PhD in Biochemistry? I work with bacteria for the most part, and am being trained in X-ray crystallography.

My undergrad (BS) was in Biochemistry. I went to medical school and at the same time got an MPH and an ScD.

Biochem really helped me for med school, but there was not much use for it after that.

 PostDoc --> Professor -> Research + Teach?

Pharmacy? For example, Abbot Labs in Chicago makes over 10 crystal structures a day for drug binding pockets in target proteins etc

 Going to get my PhD next year, then maybe professor by 2012 - I'm sure we could use bright young men with a fine OG-pedigree like yourself then.

Go to law school after and you can make a fortune in patent law. I am sure you will find something in research with one of the research based drug companies. I had an interview years ago in regulatory affairs with Glaxo (based on my B.Sc. in biology) Boring work (and not in research) but they also need knowledgeable people to design and oversee clinical trials and to write and submit regulatory paperwork to governement. If you are in Toronto or Montreal you should be okay.
