Well, it's been a while everyone; I don't /read/post on the OG much these days, but on Friday I booked my flights (£470 return, changing in Libya!)to South Africa to follow England next year.

Taking 3 weeks off work, going out after the first week and fly back two days after the final.

In Ukraine in October for the qualifier - looking forward to spending some time in Kiev.

I love football!

Barnet away in London on Saturday, bring it on...

Although, next year is dampened slightly by this kind of sensationalist reporting. Aaargh!

Just don't go off on your own anywhere and you'll be fine. It'll be awesome, that I"m sure of. And hey, England appear to have their heads screwed on right, they have a chance.

Well, even when we inevitably get knocked out in the Quarters (maybe even semis?) I'll be able to go safari! Not like getting knocked out in Germany and having to while away days on end in industrial West Germany, waiting for flights home!

Sensationalist implies its not likely to happen.

I guaran-fucking-tee it will be a disaster. Not just for england fans.

Firstly the country is still noway ready. I was over there when that other cup tournament was on and you hardly saw any football fans anywhere. That will not be the case during the world cup.

The roads are still a mess between major cities.

There are going to be literaly hundreds of thousands of fans swarming the major cities and the infrastructure can't cope with it.

I am willing to bet a large proportion of people when booking accomodation for instance will not have a scooby where to book. Even in 'safe' cities like Port Elizabeth they will look for cheap accomodation and end up somewhere like Central - wandering around at night trying to find their accomodation they will be easy pickings.

They really, really need to beef up the education for fans and about specific cities as well.

Not to scare you but mark my words - there are going to be some horror stories by the end of it.

I am genuinely worried.

I would really like to see them beefing up the education process over here. Just an example - when I got married there a few years back. We spent so much time finding suitable accomodation etc for all the guests and then I still get phone calls the day before the wedding from people saying "Oh I'm in xxxx area is this place OK?" after they go and put themselves in the cheapest place they could find in the middle of a shithole area in town.

Times that buy hundreds of thousands at the world cup.

The problem is going to be booze as well. People will get pissed, decision-making goes out the window and they will find themselves, wandering around areas that they shouldnt and will be major targets

Hopefully people will heed the warnings and be super careful, there is not much else anyone can do.

Mick, we let him go after a short trial with us. He's signed for Forest Green Rovers I think!

Incidentally, I fly out to Ukraine tomorrow!! Going to be another dangerous encounter like Moscow I imagine with half of the Ukraine hools coming out of the woodwork to pick off little pockets of English. Sigh!

Should be good craic though. We're doubling it up as a belated stag do for one of the lads too!

You must deal good quantities of cocaine to be able to afford all this.

South Africa has hosted several international events before (Rugby World Cup, Commonwealth Games, Cricket - actually the Indian Cricket League (or whatever they're called) moved their matches to South Africa lol).
So they have plenty of experience in international events.
But the World Cup is on another scale.

No doubt they're certainly hiking the prices. There's so much general bullshit sorting it out.

Flight we were originally going to get to Port Elizabeth went up from $60 to about $500 once it was announced it would be England there. Typical.

We're now hiring an 8-seater vehicle to take 6 of us up and down the country. Just no driving at night I guess.

Managed to sort out 90% of our accommodation so far. Just looking for Rustenburg and a couple nights in Pretoria or Joburgh for the final. Excited now - looking forward to it now we've got it planned.

Still waiting for FIFA to stop fucking around with the ballot so we know for sure what tickets we have. Those cunts couldn't organise a piss-up in a Geordie's cellar. Without making sure they made a pretty penny themselves obviously.

FIFA are robbing cunts.

Anyway, will report back later with more rambling.

P.S. I have a couple of photos from our day trip to Chernobyl when we were in Ukraine for England's game over there in October, so I'll post them shortly. There's also a video of my mate doing a bridge-swing organised by the local toe-rags in Kiev. Not official or anything - we just got him drunk and paid them two quid to let him have a go!

Got our tickets confirmed all the way to the final if England get there. Robbing FIFA ticket system means that it's costing 1,500 pounds for all my tickets if we get to the final though! Would be cheaper to get black market tickets...

Anyway, Ukraine - a few pics:

I think YouTube is still processing it, but you get the idea!!

Apologies for the delay and poor camera work (from my half-french pal)...
