This type of biased journalism sells to the masses. The masses being the ones who view mma as being a form of "human cockfighting". It's unfortunate but the sport is still not mainstream. It's still unknown and people are still wary of things they don't know... Like ghey sex

Competitors are permitted to pin an opponent to the floor and punch or elbow them into unconsciousness in a move known as "pound and ground".

This.
One would think that before spouting a load of nonsense such as this they would at least do their research...

Exactly, it reads more like fiction than it does fact. It even states MMA started in 2007 and when the sport has been happening since 1997. Utter garbage. I plan to write a letter to the editors.

Elvis

Whatever, seriously.

On the whole, MMA is a developing sport. All the bad press to date has caused a few issues, but it hasn't stopped the train.

I say the bad press gets the acronym into the public arena, and then it's up to the people invloved to sell the sport as it deserves to be sold.

Ultimately the sport will be defined by the individuals involved, and I think we are proving to be stronger and more united than some poorly researched, mediocre media.

Let them say what they want, but 'never back down' :)

i just can't believe that son of a bitch took a cheap shot at lawn bowls like that ...he has probably never even played!

seriously though this shit doesn't piss me off like it used to because we are solid as a rock now. It used to worry me but there is no stopping the sport now its only going to snowball even faster imo

when borat and the simpsons are paying attention to our sport whatever smh magazine thinks is pretty insignificant

As they say any press is good press. My goal is to stimulate debate and hopefully further artciles which will help spread the word on MMA. By showing that we as a community read their paper and care about what they say they will be more inclined to write about us.

Not the response I was hoping for, but a start... this is from one of the writers of the article...

Hi Elvis,

Thanks for your email. I'll be sure to contact you if I work on any future stories on the sport.

Cheers,

Sorry they said MMA in Australia started in 2007. Professional MMA started in Australia on March 22nd 1997. The UFC started in 1993. Vale Tudo in Brazil started before that.
