its not always the coach but the cattle he has to work with. australian rugby tend to hold positional players for 10 years. eg gregan and larkam. they played for that many years that their understudys retired before they did. whittaker was always the reserve for gregan yet barely got any game time. now with a generation of wallabies retiring there is no one to replace them in their positions

the itm cup, currie cup, european and heiniken cup, french union. all breeding grounds for international level players. what does australia have after super 14 (15)???? nothing.
