 http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/postedsports/archive/2009/11/27/ufc-s-rich-franklin-i-m-a-businessman-and-this-is-my-job.aspx

“I took the Belfort fight because Dana called and asked me, even though I wasn’t quite where I needed to be physically or mentally. Now, I’m not making excuses, that’s just the nature of the fight game,” he says. “But now I’m taking some time off and probably won’t fight again until April or May. I need to rest and relax and recover a little bit and I also hate prepping for a fight in the wintertime. Cincinnati can get pretty cold and I hate running and working out when the temperature is always zero.”

“The UFC asked me to fight the catchweight fights to help Silva and Belfort make the drop down to 185 pounds,” says the 35-year-old. “But now I’ve lost my ranking at 185 and 205. It’s crazy — I can headline a card and not be top-10 ranked.”

“I just want to fight the top fighters in whatever division I’m in,” he says. And then, as if recognizing the cliché he’s just offered, he adds, “Even if I put together a couple of wins at 195 I’m not sure that helps me at 205 in terms of getting big fights. I need to get in there and mix it up with the light heavyweights so I can work my way toward a title shot.”

Belfort made the drop to 185 multiple times before he fought Franklin.

Franklin jsut comes off as a sore loser here like he did after the Hendo fight.

Franklin is a very good fighter but he will not be ranked in the top 10 again for the rest of his career.

I think Franklin could have a good fight against most Top 5 205ers but I'm not sure about Machida. I'd like to see Franklin vs Machida though, there's potential for an ugly KO there.

Franklin's still a top fighter at 185, imo. It's tough when you have a guy at the top you match up so poorly against.

As for 205, I'm not sure he can hang with people like Lyoto and Rua. Maybe I'm wrong.

U guys are lost....Rich is a solid fighter, at 185lbs he can beat anyone other then A. Silva....and at 205lbs he would more than hold his own....

Comments about training in cold weather are Ignorant, all he said was he just needs a break, so the timing is good because of the reason he gave....ignorant people need to have this spelled out?!?!

The PPV's with Franklin headlining are among the lowest PPV buys.

Yeah let's not pretend fighting at 195 was anything but a disadvantage for Vitor.

He's completely soft at that weight these days.

Only fight at 185 I would like to see is with Bisping, but that won't happen. At 205 he has a number of decent fights, Griffin, Tito, Coleman, Thiago, etc. Rampage, Evans, Shogun and Machida would still be good fights though he isn't likely to win.

although it does sound like excuse making...gotta give Rich props for always being there to headline fights, and the fighters he has fought lately haven't been easy fight sby any stretch.

I give him credit for realizing he's not a top 10 ranked fighter anymore and being honest towards himself.

Not sure why the negative reaction, the guy says he shouldn't be headlining fights and most here agree.

As long as he holds CRE's ranking, all is good.
