Tony's martial arts history has taken him to dozens of different countries around the world. He lived in Asia for over 10 years studying traditional martial arts in Japan & Muay Thai in Thailand. He lived in Brazil and studied with Carlson Gracie and the Brazilian Top Team. He eventually met Paulo Guimaraes, a second generation Black Belt under Rickson Gracie and helped Paulo move to Australia permanently to teach Tony Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. After 10 years of Tony training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in different countries around the world, he received his Black Belt in 2004 from his master Paulo Guimaraes (www.brazilianjiujitsu.com.au).

Tony Bonello is one of the professional fighters on MTV's reality series, "Bully Beatdown."

Tony Bonello has traveled to several countries and trained in many different types of martial arts over the last 20 years. Tony Bonello never planned on being a professional fighter; although he has trained with many well known fighters, he did so as a fan of martial arts rather than being a fighter. Tony Bonello just enjoyed the physical challenges the martial arts training gave him and the self discipline that martial arts instilled in him, as well as the life long friends he has made throughout the martial arts community.

Some of the gyms and people with whom Tony Bonello has trained are Jeff Fenech and Anthony Mundine in Sydney for boxing; Chan Chuck Fai in Chinatown Sydney for Muay Thai; Roberto Duran in Panama; Vos gym in Holland with Ivan Hypolyte in Muay Thai; Keishukai gym in Tokyo with Coal Uno; Al Stankie in L.A. for boxing; Sitpholek Muay Thai gym in Thailand for Muay Thai; and Carlson Gracie academy in Rio for Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Then in 2000, after several years of training for fun and discipline, Tony Bonello fought his first pro fight on a show in Sydney, Australia. Over the next several years, Tony Bonello fought for fun in Sydney. His training mainly focused on Brazilian jiu-jitsu, as most fighters in Australia were excellent strikers but lacked a strong ground game, he won all his fights on the ground.

In 2007, in his last fight in Australia, Tony Bonello fought the Muay Thai and K-1 max superstar John Wayne Parr. Tony Bonello won in the 1st round. After that fight, Tony Bonello decided to fly to the U.S.A. In his first fight in U.S.A for 2007, Tony Bonello fought a war on the "King of the Cage" promotion against their Heavyweight World Champion, Tony Lopez. Tony Bonello won a unanimous decision. He then signed with ProElite and for his very first fight Tony Bonello was offered a fight versus former 185lb EliteXC world champion, Murilo 'Ninja' Rua.

Murilo Rua was scheduled to fight Phil "Badass" Baroni, but one week before the fight Rua pulled out and was rescheduled by ProElite to fight three weeks later in Hawaii against an unnamed opponent. Tony was a 235lb heavyweight but he couldn't turn down the opportunity, so he signed the fight. The biggest hurdle was getting down to the 185 lb. weight limit within the three weeks before the fight. Tony Bonello dropped the 50 lbs within the three weeks and barely made the weight of 185 lbs. at the official weigh-in. Tony Bonello lost against Ninja Rua but looks forward to getting a rematch with more than three weeks notice and without having to loose 50 lbs within three weeks.

Interesting read but I'm disappointed it left out some career highlights such as the annihilation of famed Turkish wrestler Gumgor Gumgor. Many people neglect to mention that the Gun broke Gumgor's spirit and retired him from the sport of MMA.

Also what about Tony's famed battle with legend of the sport Dan Severn in which he came back from a belly-to-belly suplex to get the win? This was a true show of heart which many people have compared to Fedor's comeback after K-Rand dropped him on his head.

I saw a fight card posted elsewhere that him set to compete against some bloke called TBA. For memory he must've fought TBA a few times on Justin's old shows in QLD...

HurtingBombs - Who did he lose to? I wonder if Elvis regrets not taking the fight now and shutting him up in the heyday.
I'm glad Elvis didn't take the fight but from what I recall it wasn't because he wasn't willing.

no!

sorry, I just wanted to say that :)

Seriously though, He is about to be pretty busy with KOTC from what I heard from KOTC. Haven't spoken to him in a while. Interested to see how he go's with them at this new 230 (105kg from memmory) class.

Cheers

Justin

Being pretty busy with KOTC is right up there in the MMA world circa 2001.
