UFC matchmaker Joe Silva wants middleweight Jake Rosholt to get more experience, his manager told MMAWeekly on Monday.

Rosholt on Monday announced he had been cut from the UFC via his official Twitter account. He went 1-2 in the Octagon.

Ted Ehrhardt, who in 2007 recruited the standout wrestler for a career in MMA with Team Takedown, said Rosholt’s exit would not be permanent.

“We’re gonna get him some more experience, try to get a winning streak going,” he said. “They pretty much don’t have room on their cards to try to get someone a winning streak. They need them to have one before they come in.”

Rosholt came to the UFC with just five professional fights to his credit, with a one-fight stint in the WEC that came to an abrupt end when the promotion shuttered all divisions above lightweight earlier this year.

Rosholt stumbled in his Octagon debut February, losing to Dan Miller by submission. Six months later, in August, he impressed with a submission victory over Chris Leben at UFC 102.

I think Leben is on thin ice. I think a loss to Jay Silva would be his ticket out.

unfallenstar -  As I said on another thread, I thought it was a premature released.  I figured he'd get at least one more chance, but he'll probably be back.  That was a sweet arm triangle he got on Leben, and Leben was main eventing 2 fights ago. Anyone else think Leben is on thin ice, or does he have an unspoken TUF clause?

I don't think Rosholt was prematurely released ... he was prematurely signed.  They should have released him when they folded the WEC's heavier weight classes.  The WEC MW division was perfect for him.  The UFC MW division ... not so much.  Jake is a fantastic prospect, but he needs to be honing his skills in the kiddy pool, not swimming with the sharks in the deep end.

Let him go down to regional circuit and gain some experience and he'll be a better fighter for it.

Yeah, being on the undercard of an UFN is a pretty clear sign he has to get a win.

He should consider it a great opportunity and if he has a good attitude and wins fights they'll bring him back.

"It’s a catch-22 for the fighters. You want to go out there and have a great performance, but if you get where you’re playing it so safe that you’re trying not to lose, you don’t want to fight not to lose. "

This is a very important point as far as I'm concerned. Fighters living in constant fear of the possibility of losing their job because of a single loss will invariably be more conservative in their approach and as a consequence fights will be less exciting.

Even if he's released, he can headline lots of small shows since he's a draw, whether anyone likes it or not.

typical example of rushing too quickly into the big shows without building a proper skilset to use against the best .

now he goes backwards 2 steps and hopefully marinates his standup skills ..... which in my opinion should have been done aleady anyhow ....

taking the last 2 yrs and focusing heavily on just standup ( he was already an all american wrestler ) .... i think he would have been far better than he is right now ....

ill say the same for shane roller also .... hes gotten away for awhile on good luck and good ground skill ..... unless he gets some serious standup , he will be adding losses to his record quickly
