I had a chance to talk to George Roop a couple days ago. His seven-year-old son Julian passed away in October. Incredibly, he fought the next month with a WEC job on the line and won.

He makes his WEC debut on Sunday. I think it's worth a read

Wow that's horrible.

His weight cut sounds severe. I was shocked when I heard 135 for him.

Oh wow, that is terrible. What a tremendously strong character. Perhaps the realisation hadn't even set in by then. I wish him all the best.

He doesn’t sound like the type of guy that would want our sympathy…but DAMN! That’s heartbreaking.

Good luck to him.

man that sucks that he lost a child. Nothing can compare.

He's also eating 500-800 cals a day. Crazy, I thought eating 1200 was tough.

I would have to grieve a lot longer than a month if I lost my child.

I had a chance to train with George at the Ultima when he lived in Tucson, AZ in 2006-2008. I always called George Champ and he is really an awesome guy. He is someone who came from a tough neighborhood and really made something of himself. George was our MMA instructor prior to him making it on the TUF show. I am in the military and George always fit in with us soldiers. I got the opportunity to meet his family once or twice. George my families prayers go out to your family and you are a warrior my brother. I know you will make your son proud and I know you will win. God bless my brother!

Good luck from the DM family!

losing a child is the hardest thing i ever had to deal with.. lost my grand daughter at 2 years old back in 2005.. we should never have to bury our children!!

good luck to Roop in his career and in life..

Mike refers to Julian as an infant in the beginning because that's what he was when they thought he wouldn't leave the hospital. He's not calling him an infant 7 years later.

Good work, Mike.
