shatefak -  Are you guys saying top k1 level striking is bad? Mark fought amazingly against a much younger, faster former champ. Jds has amazing striking aswell. Stop mocking these fighters you dummies. Hunt is 39. Id like to see your athletic abilities at that age. Phone Post

This. When was the last time that Hunt fought in the K1 GP anyways? Must have been at least a decade by now. The fact that a 39 year-old Hunt who is ridiculously past his physical and athletic prime was able to be so competitive with a guy as good as Dos Santos is a remarkable achievement in itself.

Hey there's still Spong right!

Come on, 100 year old Hunt vs. Longer reach young Lion JDS is no bellwether.

May as well say mundial level BJJ and Olympic level wrestling are pointless because some guys don't transition well. Phone Post

I think thats the point.

Everyone knows that a d1/olympic wrestler wont just take everyone down with ease.

They also know that an ADCC champ cant just pull guard and get the sub in a couple of minutes.

But theres still people who think a k1 striker would humiliate everyone the feet, when thats clearly not the case.

And smh at the "hes out of his prime" stuff when nobody mentioned it beforehand

The "out of his prime" stuff matters in a striker vs. striker contest. When Hunt is using his superior striking to KO guys like Struve, who aren't competent strikers or Kongo who's a vastly overrated striker, it's one thing. When he's facing a guy who's arguably the best striker in MMA and is a generation younger, it's another.

And it's not really that Hunt is out of his prime. It's that JDS is younger, faster and just better at this point in his career.

The rest of your post I agree with, but that's not what Orcus was saying. He has repeatedly maintained that K-1 level striking is completely meaningless.

Completely meaningless? He's wrong there. There is a direct correlation between guys with K1 experience and guys that are high-level MMA kickboxers. Has there ever been a bad MMA striker that had K1 experience? No. It doesn't mean they're going to beat everyone they fight automatically because of their K1 experience, but for sure their skill-level above average in MMA due to their K1 experience.

This is not a boxer getting beat up with kicks or ground game, K-1 just lacks the ground game.

K1 GP Champ Overeem
Crocop
Hunt
.....

Hunt is a monster striker though and can KO anyone.

Hunt won the K-1 Grand Prix , what ? 10 years ago ? And I think Sefo beat him that night and just couldn't continue , buuuut..

orcus doesn't train guys. He never has. In ANYTHING. Never lifted a weight. Never thrown a punch or tried a submission. Nothing. It's all keyboard with him.He completely lacks that perspective and isn't even insightful enough to understand why that limits the value of his opinion....but he still staked his reputation and obviously a large part of his self worth on these threads...so you will never get him to admit he's wrong and then you just have to stand back and laugh and feel a little bad for the guy. Just pat him on the head and let him ramble on, it makes him feel good.

Always keep that in mind with him and these threads.

Remember guys...now that orcus has spoken his careful insightful analysis we all understand that what JDS did last night, finishing Mark Hunt, was in no way impressive on any level...If anything it shows just how bad and lacking in power JDS is because Mark Hunt "wilted slowly" (lol) and it took him until the very end of the last round to get Mark Hunt's old, fat, unskilled ass out of there....Man JDS and Mark Hunt suck.

Also,I vote for orcus to take over those Jack Slack striking threads so he can give us the REAL breakdowns and in depth striking analysis and understanding that the UG deserves. Orcus, you are such a huge asset to this board. Thankyou for all you have taught us.

Lacking in power? I don't think there is another heavyweight on the planet that could've recovered from that nuclear bomb overhand right Junior clobbered Hunt with in the first round.

Orcus is just a goof looking for attention by mouthing off on fighters like that. Simply pathetic.

"I don't think there is another heavyweight on the planet that could've recovered from that nuclear bomb overhand right Junior clobbered Hunt with in the first round."

Junior used Roy Nelson's head as a punching bag for three straight rounds and never came close to finishing him.

".If anything it shows just how bad and lacking in power JDS is because Mark Hunt "wilted slowly" (lol)"

A glancing kick and one shot on the ground putting a guy out cold is not wilting slowly, sorry. Bad comparison dude.

"Hunt won the K-1 Grand Prix , what ? 10 years ago ?"

How long ago did Overeem win the Grand Prix?

Junior never landed anything on Roy that was as ferocious as the overhand right in round 1. It's like he was throwing a 90mph fastball at Mark's head. Big Country has a great chin (up there with Hunt, Fujita and Cabbage) but I feel Junior hit Mark with harder shots than he hit Roy.

You can read orcus and his analysis and form your own opinion, or you could read something like this

JDS is known as arguably the best boxer (hands wise) in the sport and is in his prime. Hunt was game but outgunned by a younger, faster guy. A 39 year old, thought to be done Hunt also pushed JDS more than any other guy besides Cain but in striking alone. Hunt also looked to give up reach as well and didnt he also break his toe? No excuses, im a fan of JDS, just think if anything Hunt should be getting props here.

Overeem is another story imo. In retrospect, it appears his stars were lined up for the Brock fight in many ways but its obvious now that he's got juice issues. He's a bit of a unique situation imo.

Seems also that Hunt's last meaningful wins in K1 were in 2002, over a decade ago.

What it says is that the best of K1 are not better in a standup fight than the best in MMA. Pretty simple really. Of course they're better than the average MMAer, because the average MMA guy has absolutely terrible striking.

How is does Mark Hunt losing in 2013 say that the best in K-1 are not better stand up fighters than the best in MMA ?

lol

Do you really need this broken down ? Mark Hunt is NOT the best in K-1/ He won thje Grand Prix like 10 years ago...and even that night he wasn't the best. Sefo beat him but could not continue so Hunt advanced. He never won another GP.

And Overeem isn't the best in K-1 either. When juiced out to the gills as he is in Japan (K-1 in particular) he is a danger to any man on Earth on the feet...however he won a particularly weak K-1 tourney devoid of Badr Hari and fighting Gohkan Saki w/ a broken arm.

Funny thing is that a MMA nerd like you KNOWS these pertinent details...You KNOW Overeem won a weak K-1 tourney and fought against a one armed man...and that Hunt barely won the Grand Prix...TEN years ago.

So for you to call them "THE BEST IN K-1" is just pathetic on your part because you know better and everyone here knows you know better.

Do you think Junior Dos Santos wins a purely standup match against Badr Hari or a prime Semmy Schilt or Ernesto Hoost ? That's a different argument...Overeem and Hunt are not truly the best K-1 has to offer regardless of winning the Grand Prix on a technicality or against inferior or injured competition.

Junior didn 't not land any punch as clean or as hard as that overhand right that sent Hunt flying.

The "wilting slowly" was poking fun at YOU for saying Tim Sylvia "wilted slowly" against Fedor...Over your head - lol

Again, Overeem won a weak K-1 Grand Prix devoid of Badr Hari and Semmy schilt and one of his fights against a ONE ARMED ( broken ) Ghokan Saki...Winning that K-1 that night under those conditions did not make him the best striker in all of K-1 and you know it.

Keep spinning. Post some strategically chosen pics and graphs while you're at it. Have fun.

That's the big difference SKARHEAD/orcus

orcus is comparing a sport where there is no takedowns, no submissions, different rules, different ring/cage, different time limits in fights, to a sport where striking also has takedowns, submissions, different rules, different ring/cage, different time limits.

Hunt losing to JDS in mma isn't a knock on Hunt's level as a striker. JDS beating Hunt in mma is a testiment to how good JDS is in the stand up.

SKARHEAD, you hit the nail on the head with

"Funny thing is that a MMA nerd like you KNOWS these pertinent details...You KNOW Overeem won a weak K-1 tourney and fought against a one armed man...and that Hunt barely won the Grand Prix...TEN years ago.

So for you to call them "THE BEST IN K-1" is just pathetic on your part because you know better and everyone here knows you know better."

That's the part about orcus that makes him so unique(not in a good way). There are subjects like k1 level striking, fedor and his awesomeness, bj penn and his awesomeness, pride and it's awesomeness, that orcus just acts like an ignorant noob. Yet he uses the knowledge he and lots of us have, and tries to twist things around to make the things appear how they weren't.

It can make your brain go-WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THIS GUY

But as long as you know he can spit knowledge on other subjects where he doesn't have some weird messed up view on great fighters and organizations, he can add substance to this site. For example his thread on TRT-Amazing thread with some real knowledge dropped.

That is a non-trolling quality orcus thread, so take it for what it's worth, read it, and be better for it.

This lol @ k1 striking thread, is not a quality orcus thread. It's a classic troll orcus thread, so take it for what it's worth, which isn't anything since it is under one of the qualifying subjects.
