When going running my knees often become aggravated. to the extent that I can no longer run without risking serious injury.

What would you recommend for strengthening one's knees?

I have tried strengthening the muscles in my legs that support the knee joint but that doesn't seem to that much good, plus weight lifting will probably aggravate my knee joints.

So at the moment I am sticking to range of motion exercises for my knee joints.

What does your dr/physio say is the cause of the issue?
