I'm going to go check out the schools myself, but I'm wondering what people think of the following schools/gyms:

(1) What's Garra BJJ under Eduardo Dias like at Kelvin Grove?

(2) What's Advanced MMA's BJJ curriculum like? (Matt Cooper's gym)

(3) What's the Kyokushin Kai school up near Lang Park/Spring Hill like?

I've heard good things about (2) and (3). Just looking for some extra input.

My own background and reason for joining: Current uni student. Ex-soldier, looking to get fit again, do something competitive, learn something for self defence but in a structured manner. Fairly laid back, won't run my mouth off at others or give people 'tude, but also expect a gym with similar 'good vibes'.

This is beginning to sound like a personals ad. OH, I also like long walks on the beach.

Hit me with whatever info you have.

I'm also a BJJ/grappling newbie. Did Silat and Tae Kwon do as a kid. Did some on and off boxing over the years (no fights though).

Thanks. I hadn't heard anything about his gym. Glad it seems ok. I will definitely check it out.

Matt Cooper is a great guy and great instructor, I don't think you could go wrong with AMMA.
