Can one have a reasonable expectation of privacy while using someone else's property in an unauthorized fashion?

I believe that there is some caselaw in California stating that you may be able to establish a reasonable expectation of privacy in personal emails on a work computer, unless the employer has told you that they will monitor usage, and that it is for business purposes only.
