John Alessio Begins UFC 115 Campaign

by Andrew Gladstone - 03-07-2010

Mixed martial arts veteran John "The Natural" Alessio (27-13) is campaigning to be apart of UFC 115 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The thirty year-old maturing Canadian fighter most recently scored his third straight victory at Ring of Fire 37. After Alessio submitted Matt Delanoit, he made it known that his sights are set on being in the UFC to fight in his hometown.

"I want to be on the UFC 115 because like most fighters it's there dream to compete in the UFC, the worlds biggest MMA stage in there hometown," Alessio told MMA Recap. "It would mean a great deal to me and all my family and friends."

"It would mean the world to me, it would be a dream come true. I know that I'm working harder than ever to get back in the UFC. I know that I just need to keep training hard, live a clean life, and if its in Gods will, I will get back in the UFC soon enough," Alessio continued.

Alessio suffered two losses in the UFC both of which he went the distance with the likes of former #1 welterweight contender in Thiago Alves, and former #1 lightweight contender Diego Sanchez. Since Alessio's departure from the UFC he has racked up wins over UFC veterans Luigi Fioravanti, Pete Spratt, Brian Gassaway, and Gideon Ray.

"I've improved alot because I'm continually learning new things. My ground game has gotten a lot tighter with Robert Drysdale, I have gotten a lot stronger with the help of Jake Bonacci, and my striking is always imroving with the hlp from Shawn Tompkins and Gil Martinez. It's an everyday thing for me now, not just when it's time to get ready for a fight."

Alessio had this to say on his big win over the UFC veteran Luigi Fioravanti.

"My win over Luigi was one of the biggest ones in my career. I have a lot of respect for Luigi, he's a great fighter. I was honored to fight him and grateful to come out on top."

John Alessio most recently fought at "Ring of Fire 37: Warlords" where he submitted Matt Delanoit in the co-main event in Omaha, Nebraska.

"The fight with Matt Delanoit went great," Alessio said. "I wanted to finish it early to show dominance. He's a scrappy kid and didn't want to give him a chance to win."

Alessio had this message to the fans have been helping him on his mission to UFC 115. "I am very thankful that the fans have been helping me campaign my way back to UFC. I have a great family and friends that really support me, it means alot to me, I feel blessed. To all my fans out there I just want to say thanks, I will continue to train hard and fight hard. God has blessed me with being able to live my life as a fighter."

He's got some solid wins in the past year...maybe he's just one away? Doesn't leave much time for UFC 115 if he fights again though...hope he makes it!

he fought for the first time in the UFC when he was 19 for the WW title against Pat Militech.

then he got another shot 6 years later vs Deigo Sanchez, and shut him down with a great gameplan, and should have won the fight (my opinion obviously, because the criteria is EFFECTIVE aggression, not just going for single leg after single leg and failing horribly. John won rounds 1 and 2, and lost the 3rd cuz deigo had his back for about half the round)

then his most recent UFC fight was a decision loss to Thiago Alves, for which THIAGO ALVES TESTED POSITIVE FOR STERIODS RIGHT AFTER AND WAS SUSPENDED FOR 8 MONTHS AND FINED $5500 BY THE NSAC. Yet the fight wasn't changed to a no contest. but when Nick Diaz tested positive for Marijuana vs Gomi, it was changed to a no contest. but not Alves getting caught using steriods?!?! double fucking standard.

Since then he has gone 9 and 3 with his losses coming to Condit, Daley and Andre Galvao in DREAM.

He should be in UFC 15!!

Alves tested positive after the fight with Desouza, and it was for diuretics, not steroids

Anyway, I hope Alessio gets on the fight on that card, I like him. He is one of the better strikers at 170lbs. But taking a fight with a jobber like Matt Delanoit didn't really help his chances of getting noticed by the UFC

Way to proofread, MMA Recap. Who hires writers that don't know the difference between "there" and "their"?

Alessio is good, but I don't see much point in bringing him back right now. The last 2 times he fought high level WWs (Galvao and Daley) he didn't make it the distance. I'd rather see them bring Jay Hieron in.

Meh.

Not an Alessio fan.  Too much jab & jog for my tastes.

Also, anyone who has the audacity to go by the nickname 'the Natural' had damn well better live up to the standards set by the men who have carried that nickname before him.  Alessio trying to pull off that nickname makes about much sense as Rashad Evans trying to pull off 'Sugar'.

Alessio reminds me of what is referred to as a AAAA player in baseball.  Too good to be in the minors, but not good enough to be in the majors.  He's one of those guys who will spend his whole career looking great while smashing guys in the bush leagues and then turn around and look pedestrian every time he hits the big stage.

I dont usually get on here and post to many things, i just wanted to say that i know the mistakes that ive made in the past in my career and life. some of those mistakes were not training in between fights like i should, which i do not do anymore, im always learning now. example on that is the galvao fight, which was taken on 2 weeks notice and i wasnt really in the gym prior working on my game, im not saying that i would have won 100% but i feel like i could ave preformed a lot better. Sanchez i should have been more aggressive i realize that, it was a gameplan that didnt work out in my favor. I also used to party a lot and i wasnt really that mature. I feel like ive made lots of positive changes in my life and my trainin.
