 Hi,

I'd like to know more about Western/European martial arts, particularly anything Celtic in origin or practiced in Ireland or Scotland. But I have no idea where to start.

Can anyone point me towards some resources where I can find out more about western martial arts in general and maybe finding a place where I could practice?

Thanks

DROC

From my understanding one of the best preserved Western European fighting styles is Scottish sword and buckler fighting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cusy_SkjzWs&feature=related

Ive read about groups online that reenact ancient Celtic fighting techniques also.

 Kai,

What are the options? I know nothing about this, I'm really looking for a starting point to find out more.

Hordvitnir, thanks, I'll see what I can find online

Idk if this is any help http://johnwhurley.com/hurleyframeset-2.html it talks about how the Irish fought. There is a resources page with some books for sale on Irish stick fighting and Celtic Wrestling styles.

As far as time periods you should probably look at it as classical, medieval and modern.

classical being stuff like this http://ironage-history.com/brigantia/index.htm medieval being like the video I posted and modern being like Irish bare knuckle Boxing and maybe knife fightng which I dont know much about.

Hi droc, another decent place to ask around may be swordforum.com, specifically their "Historicalm European Swordsmanship" community subforum: http://www.swordforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=9

Best of luck!
