Where do you live?

Strawberries are coming into season as well as early vegetables such as peas, spinach and lettuce.

try a local farmer's market if you have one nearby. i was at our local market today and one of the vendors was selling apples for 1/2 price. she said with the weather warming up she needed to sell all of her apples out of cold storage.

Hence his claim that they are crappy this season, anything you are getting now has been sitting in a CA storage since at least October. Apples with a waxier peel will survive the storage better, except for Red Delicious "apples" which are actually made of styrofoam painted red.

I live in Chicago. We have farmers market every week, I think it starts in June though. So strawberry is good right now?

If you are looking for local stuff not that much fruit is in season yet since we are at the beginning of spring. There are a lot of nice vegetables that should be ready.

Strawberries are generally the first fresh fruit of the new year followed by cherries and blueberries then other stone fruit finally apples and pears in the fall.

they're always crappy unless you get them straight from a farm or farmer's market. coming from a grocery store they taste like wood.
