Yoshiyuki Yoshida has been released following his UFC 113 loss to Mike Guymon, his manager Shu Hirata confirmed to MMA Fighting.

"He doesn't know how many years he has left, but he feels young in terms of ring age," Hirata said. "To go back to the UFC is really difficult once you've been cut. Considering his age, it's more difficult. I don't think they like to sign someone new who is older than 35, but he still wants to try. The only way is to beat up someone very noticeable."

The question will be whether Yoshida drops to lightweight or continues on as a welterweight. It is a debate which Yoshida had even before being offered the Guymon fight, and one that will be ongoing in the near future.

"Fifteen pounds is a huge drop, and it's better to drop it slowly," Hirata said. "He felt it was risky to try immediately, so he decided to stick with 170, but now he feels he should consider it."

Wow, now THAT really sucks :-(
Props to Yoshida though. One of the stronger Japanese fighters in the game.

He should really consider a cut to 155.
Against AJ, he looked 2 weight classes smaller.
Sure AJ is a huge 170, and he didnt even make weight for that fight IIRC, but you should not be looking 2 weight classes out of your league vs anyone!

He tapped WM and Brandon Wolf with relative ease and got KTFO with relative ease by Kos and AJ.

It pretty surprising how bad he looked vs Guymon. He got mounted so many times, gave up his back so easily, wtf?

No surprise to get cut after that. On the other hand, congrats to Guymon after such long, hard road and a well earned W.

His manager told me he had knee surgery in December and wasn't really 100 percent but didn't want to back out of the fight.

Might explain why he looked flat but not sure he should still have given up mount so easily repeatedly or just gave up his back so easily.

I was going for Yoshida btw.

looks like this japanese fighter has learned the UFC way.

lose some fights , drop a weight class to beat down on smaller men.

MAH GOD

Pride was by far the best organization that has ever existed in MMA. The UFC sells fights by trying to get fighters to trash talk and have rivalries. But Pride made their events seem biblical. The extinction of the dinosaurs, evolution, the development of human civilization... they made it all seem like God planned all of these things as a simple tool, all driving towards the purpose of producing a worthy Pride champion. Every event was like the second coming of Christ.

Every UFC event is like a new episode of Jerry Springer.

Of your 26431 posts, how many are on the topic of PRIDE > UFC, or PRIDE fighters > UFC fighters, the UFC/Dana/USA MMA sucks, etc?

Really, how many?

26000? Maybe you have a random couple hundred posts of porn on the OG?

It's amazing how you can jump into basically any thread at any time and make the thread about Pride vs UFC. I can't decide whether you're retarded or a brilliant troll.

Ususally those who are not by birth, try much harder to gain acceptance into the circle they so dearfully wish to penetrate.

Not surprised by this cut. Guy was 2-3 and didn't look very good at all against the better fighters. Almost surprised he got 5 fights total before getting the axe.
