The current issue of Cook's Illustrated tested the Weber Smokey Mountain, Big Green Egg & Brinkmann Smoke n' Grill. The Brinkmann was rated low due to inability to control temp... while the BGE and WSM rated high in this category. They gave the edge to the WSM over the Big Green Egg due to it's lesser cost and inclusion of a water pan.

*ducks*

Maybe you should consider a WSM Mike?

Please note that this review was comparing smokers... no mention of grilling.

I wouldn't think the Weber would do so well in the dead of winter.

The cheapest way to get them is at an Eggfest, which are promotional events that are held around the country, typically sponsored by BGE and local BBQ supply stores in the spring and summer.  After the festival is over, they usually sell the BGE's they used with a huge price reduction.  I got mine (large) for like $550 with the daisy wheel, egg nest, cleanout tool, several bags of lump charcoal, etc.  Would have been closer to $800-$900 otherwise and it was only used for 2 days.  You'll just have to search around for festivals in your area.  You'll probably still have to get a platesetter separately, which will set you back another $25 or so.

That article is pretty damn interesting, though of course they are only testing the smoking capability.  You'll probably be grilling on a BGE more often than smoking, if you're like most people.

Alpo is correct, as usual. Eggfest is where I got mine.

I regularly smoke full pork shoulders(16-20 lb) overnight in the dead of winter on my WSM with no problems. That's a Canadian winter.
