For the first time actual fighters will be judges for a UFC event, Chris Franco and Lance Gibson. Yes you read that correctly, there will be people judging mma that actually knows mma. What a concept!

Wow I really like what they are doing with some of these judges assignments here. Nice to see Vancouver doing that part right. This is exactly what this sport needs.

Not the first time, but I see the point you're getting at. Eddy Millis has judged a number of UFC fights over the years. Also Dave Hagan, who I believe has at least fought at the amateur level.

I also remember the Ohio commission hiring a few guys who were accomplished grapplers and had some am/pro fight experience, though I can't recall their names.

Franco and Gibson will both make excellent MMA judges.  They've been around the BC scene forever

 Great!!

I've said for years that judges should be retired fighters!

Canada: setting the standard.

a tiny step in the right direction imo

the two issues facing judges today imo are a lack of standardized criteria (how to score a 10-8 round is huge)and viewing angles, the latter can be corrected by incorporating video only judges

Dave Meltzer has judged events before.

Not a fighter but someone who knows the sport.

Thanks Mom.

Not trying to stir anything up. Much respect to both guys. I am just a bit behind on my Vancouver MMA scene and remember their split.

With fighters judging we will see less crazy decisions but I wonder if there may be some crazy decisions due to the buddy/bro factor?

I would think they would not allow them to judge former or current teammates. As well any other association they have with other fighters. Saying that, it is the government doing it so you can expect them to screw it up.
