I've been to DC probably a half dozen times over the last 10 years, but this is the first time I'm taking the family.  We'll be there 6-8 days and we already have accomodations with family.  We plan on using the Metro for most of our daily transportation.

What I'm looking for is tips and hints about the area itself.  What are the best things to see?  What are the coolest things to do.  We have a 17 year old, 12 year old and a 9 year old, all of which are domestically well traveled and pretty well behaved.

Obviously, we will hit up the monuments, museums and capitol building, but what else is there to do for fun...?  What say you locals and well-traveled folks?

When I was there, I usually just went to Georgetown and got wasted.

Really, any help is appreciated.

Thanks OG!
