You can eat pike, but we usually throw them back, as the other guys we fish with are walleye guys, so we just eat those.

 Nice spek!

Im the same way TJ.  My buds go for the walleye and Im the one casting out 30 feet with my spoons into the weeds for the pike.  The double Y bone skeleton means cleaning pike is a tough job.  Walleye = less work, less slime, more taste.  No brainer.

I have never seen a speckler trout before, is that fresh or salt water? Where do they run?

I have the jones to go out for some late season bass fishing. It will be slow, but sometimes you get a nice hog looking to fatten up for the winter.

They are saltwater and usually stick to warmer water. Spawn is spring time. Funny thing is they are part of the Drum family like Redfish but are called Trout because they look so similar to freshwater Trout.

Different....they don't fight hard, Per se, but they have a hard mouth so requires finesse.

ManVNet, what state are you in?

Great fight, they like to jump and tail dance like a freshwater trout but have a decent pull to make runs like a redfish would. I have fishing lights on my pier and usually catch these guys literally 3 feet from where I am standing with a lure which makes the fight more intense...

This time of year I like to fish the surf with the big rods. Launch two lines out with a live mullet, stick them in the holders and sit back and hang with the kids and drink a beer.

Once the clicker goes off, it's on.

Got a few bull reds a few weeks ago.
