our fighter chris wing cuts a solid 20 to fight at 170. including a 1 pound allowance that's still 19 pounds. we feel that's the max he can cut and still perform 100% on fight night. Tibau cutting nearly 30 is incredible if true.
I've seen miller training with really big guys up at ama...like mike medrano.....i don't think the additional weight is going to help tibau.

cutting 20 to get to 170 is alot as well, but even just cutting 20 to get to 55 is a much higher % of the overall body weight.

true.....not sure how ATT has Tibau do the cut. I'm sure its not the old school "running in a sauna suit." My guess is that Tibau starts his cut the Sunday before weigh ins. The am of weigh ins he's probably around 8-10 pounds over????. He'll then actually cut the last few pounds in the sauna.

The re hydration process is critical. If the cut goes well with a min of suffering, maybe tibau puts back on another 20??? 25???. I cant see him re hydrating 30 pounds in 24 hours.

i've dropped about 17lbs in two weeks to make 135. the most i've put back in is 10lbs by fight time, which is the exact amout of water weight i loose. i don't see how people do more than 10% of their body weight

A gallon of water is a bit over 8 lbs...so to cut 30 lbs is around 4 gallons.

i have an old FCF article somewhere that talks about how ATT's coach has his guys make those big cuts. IIRC, some of it involves them eating/drinking some concoction. also, it doesn't work 100% of the time.

Tibau is huge. I watched him roll with Marcelo Garcia a couple of years ago and they looked to be the same size. Marcelo competes at 181 in gi tournaments and diets pretty hard to slim down to 167 for ADCC.

I could make a good guess.
The last 1-3 pounds are nut busters. The process starts the week before weigh ins. That's why I think Alves opted not to try to make weight....he simply could not....at that point in the process one pound is enormous.

Again. If tibau does cut that much....how healthy/effective will he feel on saturday?

You of course can rehyrdate with an IV, but that doesnt help with the cut.

 Prediction:

Tibau gives Yimmy tough competitive first round. Then starts crapping out due to the cut.

Miller is NOT someone you want to be able to outhustle you.
