1. fake thug

1. any one who desperately wants to be hard, but for whatever reason does not fit the bill 2. an idiot 3. someone who claims to be hardcore, a gangster, or a street dweller, but really isn't. 4. a rapper who capitalizes off of the gangster or hardcore image, but no longer lives like that in real life.
Clarence acts like a thug when he's with us, but when the real thugs come around he's all scared to stand up for himself.

Timmy lives in an affluent suburb, drives a Hummer that his parents paid for, and will go to college without any financial worries at all. Why is he bumping 50 cent, talking all hard, and trying to start fights? Simple, because he is a fake thug.

Wow! I notice Detroit didn't make this list. Probably because Detroit is so deserted and most of the crime, bad as it is, happens among people that know each other.

copfriend -  ya'll need to go hang in opa locka in miami.    I'd say your chances of getting jacked there are pretty close to 100% if you spend just 4 hours there.

Overtown & Liberty City are big time hoods. Walk through these areas at night and there a 100% chance of getting jacked.

N. Tryon in Charlotte being on there is a joke. That's not even close to being the worst area of town.

Woohoo, Atlanta GA! Lived here for 25 years and went to Georgia Tech (right next to Marietta St). Use common sense and you should be fine:

-Make sure all your valuables are not visible from outside of your car
-Dont make it easy to look into your home from the outside
-Dont go to these neighborhoods at night
-If you are a student at Tech don't walk around campus alone carrying your laptop bag
-If you're a girl do not walk around by yourself at night

I thought Detroit would be somewhere on this list. Is there no one left there to kill?

In 2004 Opa-locka had the highest rate of violent crime for any city in the United States .[18] Calvin Godfrey of the Miami New Times said in a 2009 article that Opa-locka was "mired in crime and sinking fast."[17]

No Baltimore either.

But I agree, some of these neighborhoods are connected, so it skews things.

Sigh...  I was looking for more details regarding the evaluation of data.  Detroit is routinely ranked high in violent crime in the vast majority of surveys, but isn't listed here.  Obviously there is a reason for this.

Can you cut and paste the methodology for the report?

Mark

juszczec - Cleveland - twice.

Ohio - three times.

Take THAT LA

As a former Cleveland and current LA resident, I am frankly a bit miffed. I know shit is bad in Cali now, but not even one neighborhood in the top 25? Do something, Arnie.

Actually, I wonder how many of the crime victims are residents and how many are from other neighborhoods. There used to be a lot of murders and shootings on my block (Brooks between 5th and 6th in Venice; it's totally clean now but a few years ago it was pretty wild). It wasn't especially unsafe to live there, but it was unsafe to buy and sell drugs there, which many people did, a large number of whom came from outside of my neighborhood. I'd bet some of the spots on the list act as gathering places for criminal elements, and many of the crimes involve people who don't actually live there, although I don't know any of the neighborhoods well enough to guess which ones.

There are definitely places in LA where you can be pretty certain you will be jacked if you go there and don't belong there, but nobody goes there who doesn't live there. There is at least one housing project (probably more) which is completely run by the Crips, and even the cops are afraid of going in there, since they could be shot in front of 100 people and there still would be no witnesses.

"Thanks a lot Vegas. Youre helping every group that doesnt want casinos because of the crime that comes with it."

The crime in the listed neighborhoods has absolutely nothing to do with casinos. The meth heads funding gangs here aren't exactly in a great position to be hanging out at the Bellagio. If you look at the stats for the city &/or the greater metropolitan area, they aren't anything at all like those particular locations.

I'm gonna guess that cities that are uniformly terrible don't have neighborhoods that score as high as cities that make a specific effort to pack all its criminals in ghettos.

Used to teach periodically (sub) in North Philly. Yes, it's bad, BUT here's what may be considered an uplifting story:

Was on my way back to my car after school ended. About four guys started 'talking to me' as I arrived at my car (I had to park on the street, two blocks away. I know, total BS, but the teachers there were jerks and would complain if subs used the teacher's lot).

Here I am, white boy in khakis, button down, and a tie. One of the guys asked what I was doing here and I told him I was a teacher and just left **** elementary. They all nodded with respectful looks and just walked away.

Only downside was that I had to clean my khakis when I got home.
