So who were some of your early influences? Jeremy Horn was my first big one. I've always dug the stuff the Japanese do too. Sakuraba, also loved Mayhems' early stuff (Shaka armbar anyone?) How about Alexander Osutka's double armbar over Mike Bourke? Not picking on 10th P,just stating my early influences...

Watching JJ Machado in the old ADCC matches.  I use over hook a lot like JJ does.  But these days I'm using something we call Homie control a lot more and half guard with lockdown a lot.

I train in a Gi now because it's the only school in town. However, when I started out I didn't want nothin' to do with it! I was into MMA. The Gi in MMA is so....90's

How about Gene LeBell? Trained in a Gi,but I wouldn't call him Gi dependant.

Carlson Sr. I attended one of his last seminars in the gi. He told us to ask ourselves if what we train in the gi will also work without the gi.

My first coaches poited me towards Horn, Bravo and Imanari.

I think the first guy I independently sought out whose YouTube videos influenced me was Marc Laimon and Dean Listr.
