Manta ray

The manta ray (Manta birostris) is the largest species of the rays. The largest known specimen was more than 7.6 metres (25 ft) across, with a weight of about 2,300 kilograms (5,100 lb). It ranges throughout tropical waters of the world, typically around coral reefs. They have the largest brain-to-body ratio of the sharks, rays and skates (Elasmobranchii).[2]

Mantas have a variety of common names, including Atlantic manta, Pacific manta, devilfish, and just manta. At one time it was thought that there were many species of Manta. However, the modern scientific consensus has been that there is just one species,[3] a view supported by mitochondrial DNA studies.[4].................

a fellow fisherman pulled out a 4' ray off the pier. We were cutting it up for bait and it gave birth to 3 or 4 baby Rays. The must have been premature. Good size, 2 or 3 lbs, but they were damn near transparent. Threw them back in the water.

Should have used them for bait. Fuck compassion. I wanna catch me a shark.

Imagine that from the perspective of the manta ray being cut up.

Fucking terrifying...

Giving birth before you die...

I was diving around the Mayan reef near Akumal in Mexico and saw a huge one. I was in maybe 15' of water. I glanced into the deep blue water off the reef and saw a black shape coming out if the deep. It was coming right at me and it scared the shit out if me. I just kinda froze and watched it get bigger and bigger as it came at me. He saw me and veered left. I kicked a big to try to catch him and to try to touch his fin. He saw me and "flapped" his fins a couple times and effortlessly accelerated away. But to see a big black shape coming from the deep ocean will scare the shit out of you. Mark Phone Post

Anyone ever go to Stingray City in Cayman?

The little ones are friendly as hell.   Rub up against you to get food.
