Hi rather than using my wife's D-SLR as an expensive point and click I want to understand how to use it properly.

Anyone got any good resources online?

There used to be books (those things that are like portable interwebs printed on paper!) called Magic Lantern guides that were cool cuz you could keep them in your camera bag to reference every now and then. May be worth grabbing one of those.

go with "camera model" for dummies. Its easy to jump around through the book, and no BS right to the point
