yhknq - i love the kicks from alves
they come so quick
and his upper body doesnt even
seem to move when he throws them
so they are almost impossible
to see coming or stop

Yup, it seems Alves is able to throw his kick like a power brazilian kick or in the downslope of the angle. He seems to get his leg up high and come downwards toward the opponent's leg. So glad Alves is back.

IMO, the preinjury Alves would have taken Fitch imo. I was so amped for that rematch and though Fitch is just a hard guy for any 170ler not named GSP to deal with, Fitch looked weak imo and Fitch felt it right away.

GSP did have some safe opportunites to go for the KO

He kept throwin that inside leg kcik which was good after jabbing

That set up the left high kick after a jab or a straight right

KOS couldnt see attacks from his blind side

Duke, most importantly, can you tell us more about this tactic employed by Matt Riddle:

Duke Roufus - Any striking observations after UFC 124?

would like to hear some insight from you
gsp looked great with that jab
riddle looked to set back striking in mma

GSP jab was amazing! The jab is so important in all fighting!

the fist whisperer - Mac Danzig with good step back left hook. Would like to see more fighters learn to hit stepping backwards. Thiago Alves combos were a thing of beauty. Really enjoy seeing fluid striking that punishes the entire body, not just head hunting. He was even throwing combos in guard. Yours?

That hook was a thing of beauty! I have been playing around a lot with that punch when I spar.

Yes, Loved Thiago's combos. He is always fun to watch!

Duke, not trying to make fun of Matt now, but why do you think he was struggling so much finding his range? It does happena fair bit in MMA?

What would you do to combat this?

For that kick, Anthony deserves the best dinner money can buy, Mr. Roufus!!

And it happened in a title fight! that's serious bonus points right there!

Congrats Anthony! I was cheering loudly for ya, man. And I even bet on you, so I guess I owe you dinner, too!

:)

Duke Roufus - Styles make fights. Brock matched up well against Heath, Couture & Frank. Brock is a beast.

The key to striking is do it just like jiu jitsu. Come to the gym daily & flow spar everyday like rolling & work proper habits while do it. During training camp pick up the intensity to build game plan & reaction under fire, stamina & endurance, confidence, & mental fortitude!

Some of the best training advice I've heard for striking in a loooooong time.
