Seriously. Aside from live tournaments, I'm going to limit my online play to $.25/.50 or maybe $.50/$1 stakes, plus some $10-$15 sit n gos.

How many tables should I play at that limit? 1? 8?

Thanks!

Andre if u are doing good in tournies then why play cash at all?

Tons of good online tournies...make bigger scores and have better edge.

Tournies arfe full of donks and satelite players.

Rush tournies are fun u can win 5-10k for less than 3 hours time and for 2-24$ investement

Sunday majors u can satelite or put up 200$ and win 200k.

screw baby cash games let vector run up his 4 cent graph to the stars...thats just meant he won 17$ for the week whoo hoo!

wreckker,

Thanks! I'd like to supplement my income with some steady poker money on the side. If I can get a $20/hr hourly rate, I'd be happy. :)

I'll always do tourneys, especially live, but it's hard to have a steady income from them. :)

You are definitely going to see much higher variance in tourneys as opposed to cash games - online or live.

If you are in it for the extra income then the answer is very simple - you need to find out what game you are winning at and stick to it. Whether that game is 6 max NL ring or $11 sit n goes or massive MTT's. Whatever you do best at keep doing it.

The truth is that the best tourney players are generally not the best cash game players and vise versa. It is very rare to find a guy that kills tourneys and cash games all the same. It's kinds like two different breeds and in today's poker world it really doesn't matter which you are better at as long as you know what you are better at and stick to it.

If you are a tourney guy there are no shortage of tourneys and if you are a cash game guy there are no shortages of cash games so look at your stats (you are keeping track right?) and see where you are losing money, where you are winning money, and you should be find trends that can point you in the right direction.

I personally do well in cash games. I do well in mixed games like HORSE or 8-game where a lot of players know how to play some of the games but not all of them. I realize that this is a distinct edge I have. While I seem to have a ridiculous amount of discipline with my cards one of my greatest weaknesses is not sticking to these mixed ring games and taking shots at tourneys. I look back over the years and have come to realize that if I would have stuck with the game plan and played in those ring games instead of playing all those tourneys that I would most likely be playing some very decent stakes. Instead I have constantly depleted my bankroll taking shots at tourney's (and had some results) but the data doesn't lie and my money would have been much better used if I stuck to ring.

If you treat poker like a business (and it sounds like you are if you want a $20/hr win rate) then the best business decision is to find the strategy that makes you the most money and exploit it. In my case, I would stick to mixed ring games. In yours it might mean the opposite.

My advice is to look back on where you have won/lost money and decide what is better for you, a big tourney win or grinding that cash tables? That one is up to you to figure out.

I agree^^^^^^^^^^^

MY point is andre is u have made some tyourney scores..so get even better at tournies.

It os hard to be good at both ..

I am...but  i have been doing this for 15 years.

Their are tournies with OVERLAYS that give alot of value too,

if you have a regualr job then play tournies, if u have to rely on poker for a living then u have to get good at cash games.

Good way to play vash and make a living is to a PROPOSITION player.

I know hustler and hawaiian garden casino hire props.

As far as being a prop, you might also want to look into getting rakeback online. Sites like parttimepoker.com would be a good place to start. If you are playing cash games with any kind of frequency this is a must.

 A few things:

1)  You are better at tourneys than cash games.
2)  You shouldn't expect to receive a STEADY income from poker
3) If you do want to beat the cash games over time, you will need to drop down in level.

Just make sure you have the necessary bankroll for the tournament level you are playing and you will probably beat the game.

Just curious, which site are you propping for if you can disclose it.

I used to prop on Absolute Poker, but I stopped when they merged with UB, because I just don't trust them. Now, I just stick to the bigger sites like Pokerstars and Full Tilt and get less Rakeback, but better game selection.

You have luckboxed $400k in tournament "winnings" albeit you spent $500k+ in buy-ins alone.  Your sample size over the 15 years is really too small to determine whether you are really a winning player or not.

p.s. Everyone knows you have had an easy life.  No need to brag about it.

I made my life easy..didnt start that way.

got fired from nearly every job i had,  left home at 13,  I was very good at math in school.

As a waiter me and my co workers would play poker once a week. i would usually win, take the winnings to new casino and lose.

After a couple months I bought a book dove in the game and was hired as a prop with 320$ bankroll.

My first year I made 42000 as a prop that was 15 years ago...
I got suspended for bringing a playboy mag to work..old lady prop who I cruished ratted me out.

Got suspended for a week came and played pechangas first bigger buy in tourney for 11000 and quit proppping.

I keep records, i win consistently  otherwise i wouldnt last in this game for 15 years.

added another 5k this week in tourney wins:}

Im a gonna shift now to more tournies and bigger buy ins... so bored with plo8 cash games.

How can u make a living playing 25nl?

Dont be a tool vector...I can kick ur ass at the table or away from it!

JK i can but I wont...

WE should have a OG meet up in vegas all these poker playing mma fans and all.

It's probably still the best site to prop at, but I just can't get over the whole UB thing.

I really miss the AP glory days. It was like printing money back then, because I was making over $300 every 1000 hands just from Rakeback playing a mixture of 5/10 to 25/50 games. I actually used to play Bryce "Freedom25" Paradis HU all the time, of course this was before I knew who he was.

I have a quick question about rakeback. Since I already have an account on pokerstars and fulltilt is it to late to get rakeback from those two sites? When I did a google search it seems like the only time you can do it is when setting up a new account.
