Starts today at Commerce. 2pm. $400,000 guarantee.

I'm playing tomorrow, and I have the perfect plan in place of folding my way to the final table. Once I'm there I'll probably be the shortstack so I'll rely on my all in with JJ move from the SB.

Today is day 1. There were 517 entrants. There are 150 left. I'm well above average in chips. Cash hits at 54. Only the final 15 advance to the final day on Sunday.

Please wish me luck!

I busted out. Damn. I wasn't there to cash so when I raised from the button with ak and the sb shoved it seemed Luke a massive overbey/resteal. I called and he turned over aces and I was out.

Ugh. I should have just shoved from the button before he did. Would have had some fold equity.

I'm kidding.

:( Pic of my stack not long after I made the post about being an above average stack....Tournament structure sucks because its only 4000 chips and 30 min levels. That pic shows about 18,000 chips.

Damn. What did I ever do to you? Seriousl? Have I ever said that I'm good looking? I get compared to
Pedro Rizzo, not Brad Pitt. Why are you on my ass?

Because I justified some questionable plays? Fine... I made a donk move and got lucky in some hands. What more do you want from me?

Does anyone disagree with the play, though? Committing my chips from the button with AK against a SB shove...relatively close to the bubble...seems like a bad play even if he didnt have aces. Any pocket pair would have been a coin flip at best, and my only hope was that he was making a play with AT-AQ.

The benefit would be doubling my stack, which at that point would have been huge, but to play for so many hours and get so close only to engage in a coin flip seems like a mistake.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

I figure at best you are in a flip against a SB shove....So risking your tourney life on at best a flip is a play I can't make that late in the game.

How many BB's did you have left?

andre - again you are not giving nearly enough information to help anyone give you good advice. We need to know your stack, his stack, and the blinds. This information is crucial to your decision. If you have 10 billion chips at 1/2 blinds then this is a horrible play, if you have 1 BB left this is an automatic play.

Sorry, you guys are right.

Blinds were at 800/1600 with 200 antes. I had roughly 24,000 in chips, so about 15 BBs. The villain had roughly 20 or so BBs.

He was a solid player and I misread him for having a big ace or maybe TT/JJ and not wanting to play it out of position. The shove was a pretty massive overbet to the pot. I raised it to 3800 and he shoved. I thought that he'd want a little action with AA/KK, and maybe with QQ, so I figured it was a hand that didnt play well from out of position so he was trying to protect it.

But really, the bigger question is: Even if he had a medium pair, was it still the right call? I know it is against any non-paired hand, but against a medium pair?

That is pretty close. Going off of your read I would have folded. I mean, unless this guy has been getting out of line I can't put my tourney at risk with an off-suit AK. Suited is even closer.

I fold but I am weak tight :)

15 BB definitely makes a difference in my thought process.

I wouldn't blame you for calling nor would I blame you if you folded.

When in doubt, ask the calves.  they will not steer you wrong.

Steer....Calves....

God damn I'm witty.
