The river rats pay the bills dude. You can also exploit players trying to bully with a big stack. If you don't want to be gambling your stack in a NL cash game, you can always play limit instead as well.

I don't know maybe it's just me, but when I play tournaments, it's like my brain just shuts off. I really don't even think much, because most of my play is going to be determined by my cards, positioning and chipstack anyways. Tournaments pretty much come down to the right wave of cards at the right time anyways, which is why so many terrible players have managed to have some success in them only to never be heard from again years down the road. Having to hope and pray to catch this wave of luck each time I play is just something I'm not a fan of.

This is the only place with people willing to readsomethung I write.

I know, you need the attention. They feign encouragement and praise letting you feel free to gloat and breathe some kind of misguided satisfaction that they envy you.

Don't get me wrong,I have won plenty of money on guys drawing to the river.I think it's a personality thing, some guys can handle both games some guys excel at one.I guess limit cah is alright as long as the stakes aren't too low

I have come to the conclusion that AK is not a great hand unless you flop something. I don't defend it unless I have a strong suspicion based on previous bad play.

Because they go out with their buddies to play on the felt. Then go out to clubs until 6a.m.True they lose it just as fast but they have enough luck to build it back up again. Most of them are fearless and know how to put pressure on other players. It takes something to take 3 shots at a pot when your holding 7-2 and the table shows A-J-4-6-10

I probably look like an idiot taking pics of my chips every few hours, but it helps me remember key moments. I really enjoy tournaments much more than cash because it's such a balance between survival and chip accumulation. There were some hands that I just wish I could relive because they were so exciting. Like one where I had AJ in the hijack and raised 3X the BB, the cutoff just called, and the blinds folded. The flop was A-7-3. I bet out about 3/4 of the pot and the cut off reraised me. I had seen him pull this several times on others and he was able to get a fold without showing his hand. He was either on an amazing heater, or that was his standard play. I tanked for a minute and considered whether he had a set or a bigger ace. I ruled out the bigger ace because I assumed he'd reraise me preflop with AQ or AK, though it was possible he just called with it. More likely he had air, I felt. As for a set, that was a possibility, but I felt he had to put me on an ace so why would he make his move now when I clearly thought I was good and was doing all of the betting.

I shoved. It was his turn to tank, and I knew I was good. Then my heart dropped when he called. WITH 9-7. To recap, I just put him in for his tournament life and he called with middle pair on an ace-high board, with the preflop raiser doing all of the betting.

But it gets better. The TURN IS A 9. Im seeing the tournament go bye-bye. He just turned two pair after the worst donkey call I'd seen that day. The river....a 3!!!!!!!
I clapped my hands, pointed at him, and said, "You deserve that!"

Then as we were stacking our chips to see if he still had some left I apologized for being rude. It was just such a frustrating turn and such an exhilarating river that I couldnt contain myself.

Andre, i was going to ask you this last night. I was wondering how much you use odds in your play? I can see that you are using 'reads' on your opponents cards in your decisions but how much do you play odds rather than reading what you think is going on?

Tartan, it depends on the type of tournament, or at least the level. The format of this tournament is horrible. $4000 starting chips and rapidly increasing blinds doesn't make for much deepstack play. I rarely play drawing hands in these types of tournaments, and instead rely on a tight image to steal blinds and limped pots, and also to steal hands when I've missed but I think the other player has too.

In cash and when I'm deepstacked I will calculate my odds, but on a very rudimentary level. I think my strength is my live play because I watch everything and generally know where I stand in the hand and how to take it down, extract value, or get away from it.

But I have huge holes in my game and I'm working on them.

Not too bad, I guess. 151st place out of 2464 entrants.

Had I misplayed one important hand I would have quadrupled my stack and taken a huge lead. I folded pocket 8's when there were 3 all ins in front of me on the bubble. Had I stayed in, I would have been up against TT, JJ, and AK, but the board came 8-6-6-2-7.
