I located a 2002 S2000 with 40k miles on it.  Asking price is 15k -

I might get 10-11k for my RSX so this would be a nice deal...

Mark1 - Sigh. The guy is looking for a used car under 18k. That is why I quoted those numbers High boost has nothing to do with it. Subie turbos get fried because of a shitty design and it's resulting poor oil flow. Third, Subie actually issued a stop sale order for 09 turbos while they addressed the issues. Mark <img src="/images/phone/post_tag.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>

You do know that Subaru doesn't build the turbos right? IHI does. That doesn't release Subaru from all liability but it definately isn't soley their fault either. IHI is still a reputable turbo manufacturer as well. The EDM and JDM STi use a twin scroll IHI turbo that's really nice.

Subie is famous for doing stop sales. They also did one in 08 for the STi. Stop sales are not a bad thing if you look at the alternative. Most car companies will opt to keep selling cars and then do recalls for failures.

The problem is with the banjo bolt in the oil feed line. Starves the turbo of oil and fries them. Mark Phone Post

Go to youtube and search "Top gear Evo vs. Lambo". That might help you make a decision. However, keep in mind you can't buy that particular version in the US but you can buy an Evo and make it faster than the one in the video with very little money. I've had a EK civic hatch with B16 swap turboed, G35, Evo IX MR, Chrysler 300(on 24's), Hummer H3, and came back to the Evo. Have an electric blue Evo IX now, and bought it used STOCK. They are amazing cars, no matter your age.

1. LOL @ a grown man driving a EVO or WRX as his only car... would be a great fun car, but get a grown up's car for a daily driver...

2. LOL @ anyone thinking 10-14 lbs of boost is high... when i was in HIGH SCHOOL my dad and i built a 240sx with an sr20det in it and would take it to the track on the weekends and could run 25lbs+ in it....daily i kept it at 15 lbs... and anyone that owns an evo or a wrx is dumb not to have an apexi computer in it (or at least they were back when i was into those cars)

I drive my three young kids in my small car (its all I can afford right now). After reading this thread, I am now paranoid that some stupid teenager or soccer mom will be rear ending me at a traffic light because they are too busy texting their boyfriends.

I don't know what I would do if that happened, but I would probably want to pummel their face in.

Some people want you to think that if you buy a turbo Subaru it will blow up, which is beyond nonsense.

Given that you're not interested in speed, a WRX/EVO is not a good choice. You probably had the car that suits your needs the best. Otherwise look at a used Accord coupe or even a used G35

They don't all "blow up". However, the turbos have a tendency to blow seals and burn up at around 70k or so. Most legit sources rate Subaru turbos below average. To deny this is nonsense. Mark Phone Post

+1....G35's are amazing cars. If I hadn't gotten T-boned in mine I'd still have it.

I wonder how many of today's turbo AWD guys actually go to the dragstrip and get real numbers instead of racing dynos. I'm seeing some real dyno queen posts on this thread. Sounds like they should all run low 12s, at least!

In my car (OP) they would've been safe if they were buckled up....

My daily driver is a 06 G35. It has a touch of luxury, comfort, looks great and is quite fun. Not Evo fast, but will run high 13,low 14s and rear-wheel drive. The flow and design of the G35 looks great and will still turn heads in the future. The Lego-looking cars most people are mentioning look like crap. I would much rather pick a girl up in the G35 than a WRX.

This is what I would get:

http://www.linquist.net/motorsports/bmw

older model 330i with the performance package. Upgrading suspension, little more horsepower, different wheels and body kit, 6 speed and lots of cool M performance bits.

You can find a quality slightly used one these days for well under 20k. Tell me that's no a beautiful looking car. Excellent performance too, naturally.

More importantly, it rides like a dream. My wife wanted the G37 sedan but we went with a Maxima just for the price difference. I liked the Infiniti too, and we'll look at it again when the Maxima gets closer to 100K miles.

never underestimate teh OG fren. 4 cyl 2 litre AWD, 10.2 sec @ 1/4 mile with zero traction spinning on all 4 wheels and a blown turbo.

Alot of us who do have fast cars also have a respectable daily driver to pick up a woman in/go to work.

I drive a AMG as a daily driver as well as having a custom fast car. Used to own a Gallardo and had the same setup back then too, daily driver + sports car.

They are fun. The last car event I went to this summer was the DSM/EVO shootout and couldn't believe how many AWDs were running 9s. Just a couple years ago 11s were damn fast, now it's normal and the fast cars run 8s.

If you get an S2000 get an '03 or newer (glass rear window vs plastic = easier to see out of and less likely to get all fucked up). I put 60K miles on one without a single issue, very reliable. They get decent MPGs too. If you use it as a daily driver in a snowy area, get another set of rims with Blizzaks. You'd be surprised how well they do in the snow with the right tires.

It's not a stoplight racer but it's a fun car. The '04s and newer have more displacement but a lower redline which equals more torque. You may want to test drive one of those before you make your decision.

I did 3 passes. I never achieved a low 12 though. I only ran one pass under 12 (12.88) because my 60 ft times were shit. I only had one pass where I got under a 2 sec 60ft. I trapped 119 though. If I could of got a 60ft time of 1.7 or less that would have been good for a mid or possibly low 12.
