Joe Ferraro: Do they have any effect in the fight?

George Sotiropoulos: Not really. It just provides a level playing field. It provides the equal level of friction for both my opponent and myself

A gi also has its advantages for the wearer and the opponent, doesnt mean its ok to wear in the UFC. Phone Post

Pretty much just admitted what Creepy Joe has been accusing him of. If you can't wear shoes for grip or a Gi for leverage then those rubber braces should be banned too.

As per another thread on this, I say dress George up in Tabi Boots and a Ninja hood and he takes Lauzon out anyway.

He isn't wearing a Gi, it isn't UFC1, get over it and build a bridge. My guess is George isn't too fussed what he wears come fight time.

Depending on which side you dress yourself could play a significant advantage.

I think it's a bad decision for him to wear that stuff, Lauzon loves to heel hook people.

I don't really care either way at this point but it still seems like something the UFC/commission should make a decision on one way or another.

It's just weird seeing only one guy do it

This should not be allowed. What if a fighter said "greasing during fights, is ok. he can't grab me and If I grab him he can slip out too! That was the worst argument ever he is deliberately wearing something to help out a particular aspect of his game oh and it just so happens to be one of his biggest strengths. Phone Post

If it is legal to wear why not? Mir has no one said shit. Penn has no one has said shit. Sure it helps but no one has brought it up before so why now? It's legal!!

X_Rated -  The commission has to make a ruling on this. Using a knee brace, sure. An ankle, support, okay. But George looks like Aoki. He's abusing the system. The argument that George could come out naked and still beat Joe is retarded. That doesn't provide any rationale for the legitimacy of taking advantage of the system Phone Post

Aren't you aware that this is UG logic?  It's the same as "Who cares if GSP greased, He would have won anyways."

I don't think George should be getting a hard time, but I do think the commission should investigate the issue.

Athletes have every right to seek advantages within current guidelines. That exposes weaknesses and inconsistencies in the rules, which allows governing bodies to make changes that better the sport.

Not breaking the rules doesn't mean you're not dirty / shady.

You can apply lotion an hour before your fight, its not "illegal" but its dirty as hell.
You can not shower for a week before your fight, its not illegal, but its dirty as hell.

See what I mean?
Just because you're not breaking any official rules doesn't mean you're not dirty.

I think you have to build the bridge first, then you can get over it.
