The battery controversy is one thing I never really got...why not just wait for pros to start testing with these things and then see what the real world numbers are like?

^ I mean if you're a pro and you gotta pick one of these up to start shooting the olympics in a few months and you need to go get familiar with it in a hurry....

Joe McNalley would be a good guy to ask.

That's my plan, have a few freinds grabbing it at the start, I'll see how it does, plus I'm in no rush to upgrade from a D3s.

SnapLocally:

Ever seen this shot?

That's within my first year of shooting. XTi, second hand Tamron 28-75.

Never seen that shot, and to be honest a "Point and Shoot" can capture a shot like that, it's a sub on the ground
right in front of you, not what I would consider a "skilled" shot. Most amateur photographers MMA shots are filled with "ground" shots as they're easy to get, with little blur and no "intuition" needed on when to shoot.
Seriously go an look at most amateurs ports and they are filled with "ground" images.

And as far as the 2nd shot:
comparing 1 shot from your port to 1 shot in Tom's port doesn't impress me either, anyone can get 1 good shot, specially at a boxing match, there would have been Hundreds of punches landed at that event in total. This is where my comment comes in about judging photographers by an entire show.

I see grainy images and lots of blur, and missed shots, portfolios with 80shots per bout and 2 actual connections. << that's how I judge my peers, how many actually connections did they get? Cause anyone can post 80+ missed swings.

That shot above would be in the annals of history as the first Heavyweight- Brad Imes- to win an MMA fight via gogoplata. There were other photographers there, but I took the only known existing shot of it. Now as for your commentary insinuating that just about any photographer could've taken it with with a point and shoot, feel free to use one the next time you shoot an event. Because I did happen to look at your site, and you have PLENTY of "easy" ground shots padding your "port".

"anyone can get 1 good shot, specially at a boxing match, there would have been Hundreds of punches landed at that event in total"

Funny you should mention that. I didn't take "just one lucky shot" at that event, I took them by the dozen, and roughly at twice the keeper rate as Mr. Casino. In fact, he was the reason I even bothered with the event at all- I wanted to see how skills matched up against an international award winning photographer who was winning awards before I ever dreamed of owning a camera. Now the fact is that I did just fine; Eastside boxing took down his photos in favor of mine when I presented the photos to them.

Now since you're apparently rather fond of the "anyone can do it" mentality, feel free to show me your boxing images; show me how it's done. All I've seen so far from your "port" are easy ground shots, a few lucky punches from between ropes, and the ever so easy over the top of the cage shots, crooked horizons and all. Hell, since we're going the "just anyone can do it" route, I should point out how everything I've seen was taken in nice and bright conditions- the easiest way to capure them. Personally, I don't shy away from the rinky-dink venues with shit lighting. Those shows pay the best.

"Your port is nowhere near as good as my port, you're delusional if you think it is."

I'm glad you finally said what you're thinking instead of pussyfooting around with insinuations. I don't know what you actually believe about yourself, but I'm glad to see you've got a self-affirming mantra to work with.

"You have an extremely small selection of quality shots per show, actually probably 1 of the lowest I've seem with regards to actual "connections" and since you want to compare"

Be honest Chaz, you want to compare dick size more than anything else. Well zip up sweetie, and let me tell you how it is: you're giving away everything, and there's no incentive for anyone to buy anything. If they can see it, they can steal it. I only put out MY favorite shots, and I limit what can be seen until I have sales lined up. I have no need to "tell a story" with "port" filler, and I sure as hell don't spend 40 hours to make a few sales- a simple email is usually sufficient.

"You're snaplocally.com has a web-rank of 21.7 MILLION and even though mine is no where near as good as other MMA photographers, my web-rank of 770K is vastly better then yous."

You self-worth is predicated on Alexa rankings. Fucking priceless. And by "priceless" I mean "pathetic". Keep telling yourself you're 28x better than me. Wait, what's this- your site only has 3 more likes than mine on Facebook? Well I sure hope the money you've made reflects your supposed "worth"   ;)

"I HOWEVER MAKE MONEY OFF MY WORK, ENOUGH TO HAVE A PRO CAMERA, that makes the shots look like they were from a well lit show."

Yes, and when you're shooting at f/5 with a f/2.8 zoom while making this "poor light" point and using a camera worth several times my equipment yet fail to even get the fucking horizons straight never mind surpass what I do through chainlink, manually focused- not over the top such as yourself, you take quite a hit in the credibility department.

Just to reiterate, my shots are every bit as good as yours, and I take them with far less expensive equipment than yourself. In fact, you seem rather fixated on how "professional" you believe yourself to be because you spent a whole bunch of money on equipment. That just makes you sound like a mark. That's right, I'll rely on skill, and yourself on technology.

Consider myself pointing and laughing.

Ego's a bitch, isn't it Chaz?

I only skimmed what you wrote, you were wrong on what I read, but what's abundantly clear is I've gotten to you, your ego needs much protecting, and you've clung to my every word. While I was getting a good night sleep you were chomping at the bit, seething in rage and attempting to reinflate your damaged ego.

Here, just for your benefit I'll entertain one of your frustrated claims:

"and you expect any of us to believe you make HUNDREDS of dollars in sales a show? Shit, in the last photo you posted there was NO ONE in the crowd!!!!"

That's right, Chaz- I did make HUNDREDS of dollars at that show. I made $100 to show up, and made another $300 in sales. If you weren't so fucking hard-headed and lying about your life you'd admit that fans don't pay for shots- promoters, fighters and their families do. Just to reiterate, I shoot the "big" shows every bit as well as you, I also take on the small, poorly lit shows and have no shame in doing it. In fact, I've learned the most in those small venues; I can EASILY do what you do in the brightest of lights, but you can't do what I do in the small shows.

Well, whatever, Chaz. You keep relying on the latest technological advances, throwing your money up Nikon's asshole, and I'll continue to rely on skill to shoot whatever comes my way.

Speaking of unprofessional...what's with the D800 not being able to use an extra battery to get better framerates?

I guess 36MP files will do that to you...

Probably a moot point because I use Canon. Waiting to see what the 5D3 and the 7D2 bring - I'm considering upgrading to one of those (assuming they ever come out :) ).

I don't think the D800 is a sports/action camera. It's a high MP camera for landscape and studio work.

I do have an ego when it comes to my work, but it's also well deserved and justified. I paid my dues and I put what I can back into my Profession to make it the best I can, not only for my ego, but also for my clients.

So I'm going to make a new thread about the 2 new cameras coming out from Nikon and Canon and leave this childish crap in this thread, you're free to keep commenting on me here if it makes you feel better, but please leave the new post on topic.

Wow, that was a whole lot of words, when all you're really saying is "I think I'm better than you".

You aren't.

I create MMA and Combat  Sports iconography; you stand over a fence and push buttons.

Well, I don't know whatever else is REALLY on your mind, but thanks for keeping me on yours.

That's fine. Others might disagree, and still others pay me to both shoot what I shoot and process the way I do. I can't complain, as my processing got me my own article in Real Fighter, paid, to discuss what I do. I even mentioned the haters. Besides, if there were no processing involved I'd just be pushing a button. My processing has landed me many a job.

I honestly had no intention for this to get personal, but you "barked at the wrong dog"  << corny but it fits

Those privy to the BS in this thread at the time of its conception need only know the truth, I'll be editing it out so future visitors don't have to read it, my points were made and if anyone wants to judge my work they know where too look.

Yes, you should have regrets, because you basically just made a bunch of shit up regarding myself, and in a sad display of machismo boldly declared "I'm better than you and I have the Alexa score to prove it!". How embarassing for you.

My original point still stands: Skill matters more than equipment. I proved my point; you merely embellished yours.

Now I definitely feel sad for you, you need to judge your work and self-worth based on your own skill, not on others, and to live up to your own potential and not those with better skill and means.

Although by your replies I think we can all see, you know already you are as far as you'll ever get, as I think that's where your resentment and jealousy come from, maybe you just need to accept that and move on.

You remind me very much of a child begging for his mommies attention "Mommy Mommy look at my pictures!" and I'm sorry no one here has had the time to pat you on the head and say good job!!

No matter how you try and spin it, equipment, web-rank, REAL paid gigs DO make someone more Professional and I think you need to stop hiding behind your inadequacie and face the facts. Be happy with what you got and what you are, even if that will only ever be an amateur photographer working for a free seat at ringside, I am sure all of the fighters appriciate your work when they 1st start out.

Now lets see who stays up late to reply... you're very hypocritical

Wow Chaz, your posts get stupider as the day goes on. Spell-check your self before you wreck yourself.

No, never mind, because the ideas you're trying to convey are even more fucking retarded that your grasp of the English language:

"My work is real good! I have the Alexa ranking to prove it!!"

"I spent more money than you did on equipment. I'm a 'professional'!"

"You're jealous of me! I spent more money than you did! I'm a "professional"!"

And what you can't prove, you make up. Let me be perfectly clear, Charlie- you're take on everything, from your supposed worth based on money, equipment, and rankings is pathetic. Keep on self-aggrandizing; in the end it's all you've got. A fake ego to complement a very real inadequacy. I guess that's what happens when you have over-priced equipment to take mediocre shots.

CombatCaptured -  Now lets see who stays up late to reply... you're very hypocritical
Wow even with the dig at the end you still had no self control and had to post, I can only wonder how long you waited for a reply, we can definitely tell you're one of those guys who has to get the last word in, or you'd go nuts...(more then you already are)

It really bothers you that you're not even close to the best photographer on the underground doesn't it?  (You'll try and twist my words to make it look like I said "I was the best", it's what you do, very predictable and no one falls for your BS)

And people do tell the difference between professional photographers and wannabe amateurs by equipment, quality of shows, quality of work, consistency of work and % of shots.

PRO        -          AMATEUR

Pro Equipment          -         Amateur Equipment
Gets Paid before       -        Works for free then harasses fighters for money
Pro Shows          -             Amateur Shows
Official Photographer      -     Creepy, angry GWC that just shows up
100 of thousands of views     -     10 (including is mommy)
Makes separate post to show images       -     Forces his crap on other peoples threads to get attention
Doesn't randomly brag about past        -         Brags about a crap interview from 4 years ago?
Hundreds of shots from events           -          15 (That sadly are your favorites)

Like it or not, you're just a GWC

And don't try and twist this into me saying I'm great, that's not what I'm saying, I'M SAYING YOU SUCK

And only a douche
bag loser calls someone posting on a internet forum on spelling mistakes, and what's even funnier is you just proved how pathetically you are attached to this discussion by going and rechecking all your spelling... dude it's a web forum!  LOL we all just realized how much more pathetic you actually are!

Just to clarify, I'm not trying to say how great I am, I'm saying you SUCK and are an embarrassment. But you'll probably try and say you didn't read what I wrote, like anyone believes you, we can all see how obsessed you are.

Better make sure to get the last word in (PS lets see how long I can troll you, I'm guessing at least page 3)

Only the very last one- the Rockem Sockem Robots. Bounced the flash off the ceiling. As a general rule I only use ambient lighting for fights, regardless of how dark the venue may be.
