I guess whitetail hunting mainly, and just target practice.

yeah, kind of a strange caliber. ammo will not be as readily available and will be fairly expensive. 25-06 is a nice flat shooting round but not really ideal for whitetail. check out a 30-06, its a standard for good reason - the ammo is very popular and can be found cheap plus the rounds are extremely versatile and varied.

Reason for these calibers was I wanted something lighter and with a little less recoil than my 30-06, I think the 308 might be the best choice after some research.

you can get 90 grain slugs for the 30-06 though. pretty light on the recoil. .308 is not that significant of a difference. i might consider a nice .223

My 2nd Post on an MMA sight and I'm going back to hunting??? If it were me being a pro outdoor/gun writer and I wanted a powerfull rifle with little recoil (a tall order) the 7mm/o8 is a a good decision. It is good to 300 yards and Remington and others make great rifles in this cal.

The 25-06 was considered the best open country mule deer rifle and this too is fine long range deer rifle.

An amazing carrtrige of today for what your looking for is the 270 WSM very little recoil and it outdoes the 270 Winchester, my article on the Browning X Bolt will give you the run down at www.foremosthunting.com

Another rifle with power and little recoil is the 6.5x55 SE in the CZ-550 FS a highly sought out rifle indeed...Pass it on

Uncle John's Outdoors
