The card for SporFight X “Middle Tennessee Mayhem” gets better everyday. Today the promotion announced that Memphis standout, Amaechi Oselukwue is set to face Alabama jiu jitsu ace Daniel O’Brien. The two will collide on January 29th at the Murphy Center in Murfreesboro, TN.
Oselukwue earned his stripes as an amateur by taking on all comers in West Tennessee over the past two years. What was truly impressive about his amateur career was that ‘AO’ didn’t just fight in his weight class. A lot of fighters duck the best guys but ‘AO’ fought the toughest guys in the state regardless of their weight class. Of his five losses only two were at 185. With his impressive 11-5 amateur record ‘AO’ went pro earlier this month and defeated a very tough Preston Snook to start his pro career 1-0. Before turning pro ‘AO’ was ranked in AroundTheOctagon.com’s Top Ten rankings the last five months.
But standing in the way of two straight is Cullman’s Daniel O’Brien. O’Brien is a newcomer to MMA but is no stranger to the Alabama grappling scene. Earlier this year O’Brien took first place in three 2010 NAGA Southeastern Championship divisions.
This is an interesting matchup. O’Brien has never had an amateur or pro fight but cleans up at NAGA every year. ‘AO’ has superior striking, a very good ground game and is an athlete. Should the fight go to the ground O’Brien would likely have the advantage but if it stays standing it could be a short night and AO could leave Murfreesboro 2-0.
With two of the state’s best lightweight colliding in the main event and a huge heavyweight co-main event “Middle Tennesse Mayhem” is shaping up to be the best show to ever come to Murfreesboro.
Stay tuned more fights will be announced this week.
