Following a loss to Mark Bocek at UFC 124 in Montreal, Dustin Hazelett has been released from the UFC.

Sources close to the fighter confirmed Hazelett’s release to MMAWeekly.com on Tuesday.

The Cincinnati-based fighter had fallen on tough times recently after knee surgery sidelined him for over a year. He returned and dropped his next three fights in a row.

That sucks. Its certainly true that he hasn't done well recently, but he was fun to watch. Guy has some really good jj and pulled off a couple of really sick submissions. Oh well. Phone Post

He should be able to land on his feet and do fine anywhere else. LW division in the UFC is equivalent to those decades-long traffic jams in China where people chop each other up with axes and shit that i seen on discoery

GoodCoolMan69 - At least he has playing World of Warcraft to fall back on. That nerd.

Nerd would beat the breaks off of you.

Hopefully he makes it back, injuries can change an athlete in any sport.

Damn.

Guy had a hell of a run in the UFC. Always a tough fight for whomever he faced. His submission of Josh Burkman still ranks up there as one of the best subs I've ever seen.

Shame to see him cut. He's put on some exciting fights and is prime underdog made good material, but losing in the manner he did in the last fight it was pretty clear he'd get the chop.

Hope he muscles up and does good things wherever he ends up. Maybe he should give Chael a call and some of that good testosterone...

Hazelett is gonna slap on the rubber guard on the rest of the division in smaller shows.  Hezelett highlight reel coming!

Man the UFC is quite choosey about keeping athletes on their roster.

Hazelett is definitely an A level fighter and good gatekeeper.

That sucks. Always good to have a slick jiu jitsu guy to balance out the wrestlers. Bocek is obviously phenomenal on the ground, but the majority of wrestlers would be in a world of trouble if they took Hazelett down.

It sucks, but its not surprising. He's had a few rough fights in a row now, but he can work his way back.

well on the bright side at least now he is no longer under exclusive contract. Would love to see him take over Bully Beatdown! Just seems like he is much more well-suited for the job than Mayhem...

Being cut, in some fighters cases, can help them in the long term. Particularly when they are young and not only losing, but being finished quickly. They can fight more often in the B-leagues, get wins, confidence and continue to improve and make refinements... and depending on their UFC contract, they can make similar short-term money.

The biggest risk when getting cut and fighting in a lower level, is for the fighter to continue to lose. But if that happens, it really means he isnt good enough right now. I dont think that will be the case with Hazelett.

The Burkman armbar is my favourite submission in MMA history. The ankle pick to set it up and then the creativity and smoothness he showed in executing the move.. beautiful.

Great fighter on a rough streak, it happens. He can always make it back.
