It looks like most of this video is footage from Mifune's Canon of Judo film.

I have the film on DVD and the footage in this video looks exactly like the newaza section in the Canon of Judo film.

I suspect that the newaza or groundfighting section of the Canon of Judo film was narrated and made into a separate mini-film.

some slick shit right there. while there might not be any fancy half guard moves or other new inverted guard techs that we see now a days, you can still see from the way those guys moved that they trained those techniques alot in class and sparring.

Really weird. I thought that Helio Gracie created these moves.... you know, so that a smaller guy could use leverage and stuff to beat a bigger opponent....

I'm so confused right now.

Helio never said he created any technique. He only said he adapted the techniques in his weak frame and body so they would work for him.

Logically since there is only one kind of human body and since there are only so many was it can move, there is going to be alot of people who will be doing the same things.

So what "adaptations" did he make?

"So what "adaptations" did he make?"

Im guessing adapting what he learned to a self defense setting along with his own philosophical oppinion towards it (according to Ryon). I think Ive heard he also changed the leverage points. However looking at alot old school judo videos like the one above I also wonder what exactly he did?

Japanese people arent huge people and Judo in itself is a leverage based art. I also wonder what adaptations he made.

Seems most inovations to GJJ came through Rolls and many jiujitsu students along the way.
