I used to think that live poker was as hard or harder than online, but now I see that online is much, much more difficult. I'd like to try to understand all of the factors that make it more difficult, though. Here is what I've come up with so far:

1) Immediate access to poker tools: HUD, sharkscope, pokerstove, etc.

2) Poker community online is connected through various sites/messageboards, which leads to constant evolution/improvement.

3) Online players see many, many more hands in a year than most live players will see in a lifetime = more experience.

4) Abundance of tournaments available at any time so players will take shots and shove/chase with hands they wouldnt normally do so with if they had to drive or travel to a tournament and sit down to play with all of the associated costs of playing live.

5) Live tournaments attract more casual players.

truthfully it all boils down to game selection, and once at the top top levels even table selection.

you can find soft and tough games both live and online. one will be harder than the other based on your skill set and discipline.

it is up to the player to find which game they can beat (live or online) and stick to that. only move up once you have won enough that your bankroll can take a hit if it doesn't work out.

Wow! Good post! Youve got my attention! Now I know how celebrities feel when some jackass is rude to them just to provoke a response! Chewy, I assure you, I don't deserve your attention, buddy! I'm a no one...and while I realize that still makes me more significant than you, there are much more accomplished people to bother on this site. Go get em, buddy!

one of the things my brother always mentions wrt online vs live is that with online, the people that play are somewhat educvated about the game, they possess the motivaton and knowledge to play.
having to register, login, deposit money, rakebacks, all that stuff adds up to a player that knows something about the game. thus its harder especially as the stakes go up,even middle stakes like 5/10online has been compared to much higher live.
whereas live games, my brother mentions that a lot of players r recreational, some r drunk, some r there to have a good time, some see it as an opportunity to burn a few hours and a few bucks.

You know, I was wondering why you had such a problem with me, and I finally figured it out. You're upset that I'm so opposed to online piracy, right? You're screenname is all over the web on file sharing sites and messageboards. You're based in Beijing and you're Filipino. That's as much as I know about you. Wish I knew more because having a fan like you is a bit scary at times.

Commerce really does have the juciest cash games. Hustler is decent. Hollywood Park is probably the worst place at the $200 level but good at $300-$500. The $200 tables are filled with the same people every day and most of them are solid players who grind out a buy in a day with little risk. The $300-$500 table is the wild west, especially if two guys in particular are there (Raj and David, the two best action players).

Man, you really should get to know me. If you think my posts about poker are annoying, you'll be thrilled to see how much more annoying I can be about pretty much everything else going on in my life.

I was born defective. Sorry.
