where are all the ammy mma fights in the orlando area? Seems like nobody is holding them in this area...we have to drive to tampa/fort myers or south florida if you want to fight.

why arent there more in this area?

Man, 3/4 of ammy fights are shady, cancel a week, have no punishment for not making weight or drop outs before and overall suck!

AOF, a couple in South Florida have been the only well ran ones Ive seen.

The ISKA really has dropped the ball on the whole things allowing too many Affliction wearing 55 year old used car salesmen try to run these things.

Rules are bent and or changed and the holier than though attitude of the ISKA commision is almost comical.

I hear you on making weight. One of our fighters fought at The Barn in Sanford and his opponent didnt make weight (kevin fought him anyways and won, so in the end it didnt matter)

I know the IKF also sanctions ammy mma, so there are choices other than the ISKA...

I would think that if money could be made with ammy mma shows, that there would be lots of people doing it all over the state.
I do know there seem to be more fighters than fights right now.
We cannot find any in this area and have to drive south.
Heck, I'm cornering for my buddy on the 20th and we have to drive 3 hrs south to ft myers.

it's ridiculous

rosario02 - Alpha fights in south Florida is the most disorganized piece of shit poorly run amateur MMA I've seen..a bunch of guys from my gym have had fights cancelled at the last minute, after they've been cutting weight for wks.. Theyll tell you they have a fighter lined up for you and at the end they tell you they lied.. Don't bother with them <img src="/images/phone/post_tag.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>

thx for the tip!
we'll avoid them

Luigi is right. One of my guys fought on a FNAMMA card against a good fighter from F2(lost a decision) in Gainesville. Was a great fight and we were treated well by Domenech. It was good experience and a great fight and I would recommend that for Ammy MMA in Florida.

well, I appreciate the heads up, however...destin is 6 hrs away from orlando. I would hardly consider that to be central florida.

As stated in the OP, we are tired of having to drive hours and hours for an ammy show. There are enough mma gyms in orlando, and enough people in general to support ammy mma in his area.

We have considered holding a fight in our own gym, since we have a regulation cage.
Only problem is, we can only hold about 200 seats, so even at 20 bucks a pop, we would just about break even.
There is so much time and effort into putting on a show, and my time isnt free, we would want to be able to make at least some money to make it worth it.

Perhaps this is part of the reason why there arent shows all over the place? The one we went to in Sanford a few monhs back only had about a hundred paying spectators, so I'm pretty sure they must have lost money...

okay, well lets talk pro mma then :)

there arent any pro shows here either. Couple of years back there was one at the UCF arena, and I think there was one in daytona last year...but that is it so far as I know.

A buddy of mine just got through driving down to hollywood for a pro mma fight cause he couldnt find anything closer.

I'm thinking that the problem has to do with all of the upfront costs that go into holding a show? I know the state takes 2 percent of pro ticket sales, there is a 1800 dollar permit fee, etc...all on top of costs for insurance, doctors/medics, officials ,etc...

Also, a question for fighters on here...

If we held an ammy mma event at our gym, we probably would not have all the bells and whistles that an ammy mma fight held by...say...AOF, would have.
Meaning, no scantily clad gyrating women, no special lighting effects, no fog machines, etc...
It would be a simple show with a ring announcer, maybe a dj, chairs to sit in for the spectators, and that is about it. No pizzaz...

I'm wondering if the fighters care about this, and if the fighters freinds or families who come to spectate would care?
Or would you just be happy to have a place to fight?

Hey, rod, I dont think so, but you never know.
I'm on facebook , just look for my name...if you search and see a pic of an old fat guy doing a superman punch in a muay thai fight...then on my page I have multiple photos.

I train with premier martial arts in orange city and in sanford. I also work with a jeet kun do school in winter park.

rosario02 - fighters at my gym and that i look for sponsors for usually dont care about all that; as long as they have a sanctioned fight that will count on their record, get paid (pro fight).. thats pretty much the main concern

well that is good to know. We are looking to do one (sanctioned of course), but the upfront costs are substantial...and we already have a free cage and venue!

I'm in agreement that I could care less about all the "ambiance" of a fight event. Something close to us and well run are much more important.

Found you on our school fb page.  I posted on the "Bring UFC to Orlando" thread about getting an Orlando OG get together and still think it would be a good idea. There are a lot of us.

yeah, there are a lot in orlando and surrounding cities, and definitely a lot of up and coming amateurs too.

well, we are trying to work out the details, and we'll see if it is feasible for us to hold an event.

I had heard that the guys from the roxy fights, defiant7, were going to hold a huge ammy mma fight at UCF? It is supposed to be an all day affair? Has anyone else heard about this, because I'm not really seeing it advertised anywhere and the date is getting close (feb 15th I think)
