It occurs to me that since it's considered poor form to discuss beats and brags, that we of the Pokerground might want a thread to do just that, rather than stinking up the rest of the forum.

How about posting some brags and some beats so the rest of us can either applaud or tell you that you're an idiot and that it's not a beat when you (blah blah blah).

I'll start with a simple one, although I won't bore you with the actual hand details:

At an underground 5/10 in Montreal, table winding down, we go to four handed, but one seat is pretty much dead-tight waiting for big hands. Villain is taking the game personally and trying to make it a pissing match, but his betting patterns were ridiculously obvious, trapping his big hands and hammerring everything else.

So I check called AA all streets all the way to the river for stacks. Twice. The other active (and very good, by the way) player was hanging his head watching the slow motion train wreck unfold and it was all I could do to not meet his eye, cuz I knew I would give it away to the villain.

Simple play, albeit risky, but I thought I'd start the thread with it so as not to brag TOO much.

Good idea!

Here is my brag of the day.

I was at the $300-$500 table and seated to my left is the guy I consider the 3rd best player in the casino. He's a regular and the definition of super loose aggressive. He puts tremendous amount of pressure on you, and most people fold the best hand against him because you are almost always playing for stacks. Deep stacks. That said, he picks his spots pretty well and usually gets paid off BIG when he has a big hand. Yesterday he walked away with 7 racks of chips ($3500).

Anyway, he is much better than I am, but I've studied him for so long that I know his pattern and I generally avoid his traps and have been able to set a few of my own on him since I know he'll bet if I show any weakness. So I was in the c/o and he was on the button and it was folded around to me. I had A9 suited and I raised to $25 (blinds are $5/$5).

He called and the blinds folded. The flop came Qc9c4h. Here is where the trap came in. I had made it a point to bet the flop, whether it was a cbet or donk bet, every time I hit my hand, and then I would show. Anyone paying attention would have noticed that I bet out whenever I had the best hand, so when I hit middle pair I simply checked. I knew that if he bet big, I was ahead. If he would have checked or threw out a small bet I would have been suspicious, but I know his bet sizes when he is trying to steal and with me checking the flop, I was sure he thought he could take it down.

He bet $75 into a pot of about $60. I hesitated, then raised him to $180. He had $600 behind him and I had about $400 left after my raise. Without missing a beat, he went all in. I looked at the board and considered what he might have - JT for a straight draw, clubs for the flush draw, maybe J9 for a pair and backdoor straightdraw? Or, was he trying to take it down with air because he was telling a story and committed to it. I had played with him enough to feel that I was ahead with my 9 and up against a draw to the flush or straight in the worst case scenario.

I called and at showdown I showed my A9. He flashed a non-club 4 (bottom pair) and mucked. :)

By the way, I said he was the 3rd best, but I do not mean to imply that I am anywhere near that. There are two guys that just amaze me, and this guy is very close to them in skill. They are the only three that stand out to me as great players.

I love those hero calls. Have done it with A high for stacks when the line just didn't mesh with the player having a hand. It still annoys me to get the "you're an idiot" speech though, even though it should make me feel somewhat smug instead.

I try to fold early and control pot sizes such that I'm not in the position of having to make tough river choices, but those times that I do and I'm right are bliss.

This isnt really a brag, but this guy was beaten out of a pot by me earlier and has been every hand in which I opened, so this was like gift-wrapped for me. Just happened moments ago (sorry about the lack of conversion. if someone can tell me how to convert it...)

"Sbux Warrior said, "nh""

I know this was an asshole thing to say, but this guy had it out for me, for some reason.

You are a horrible person.  Little baby Jesus says to apologize and tell your opponent that you got lucky with the cards.

Based on the way Andre played the hand, it seems quite likely that Andre did have a draw.

That's normally the feeling I have moments after I say something like that.

Do you like the shove? I think you get paid off online a lot more than you would live with overbets like that. It looks so fishy or so much like a draw that people tend to think you're making a clumsy steal.
