With Fedor and Arlovski either retiring or should be retiring, what does that say about the talent level of this tournement? Im not sure but I don't think it speaks well.

Thoughts on the fights.

Valentign/Sefo - pathetic

Griggs/Gian - fun in a sloppy local show kinda way

Rosario/Johnson - I don't get the hype. Both guys gassed quick and were not impressive. Ok fight but to say they are the top prospects in mma is ridiculous.

Kharnitov/Arlovski - I was surprised Sergei looked so good and not rusty but then again he was fighting Arlovski who is clearly a shot fighter. I hope Andre hangs it up and im glad Sergei isn't pissing away his prime years anymore. Sergei might not be a world beater but he is a solid heavy and i really want to see him fight Cormier for some reason.

Fedor/Bigfoot - This should not be surprise. Fedor's recent perfomances have not been Fedor like and he seems clearly to have lost interest. I wish he would have gone out with a win but he has nothing to prove. Bigfoot is a good fighter but he wont win the tournement.

What's left.

Overeem is a stud and imo far outstrips the field. He is in his prime and has put is all together.

Werdum is a good heavyweight but nothing that special.

Rogers meh

Barnett is living off past accomplishments much like Fedor and the rest of the old Pride guys here or in the UFC. He will probably submit Rogers but won't get any farther.

Why the fuck isn't Cormier in this tournement? Thats a fucking travesty as i think he would have walked thru any of the other alternates.

nothing that special- get it right

He's a good fighter, what else is there to say? He's not spectacular,he has very little in the way of stand up, he's given to lapses, he is sometimes boring to watch, but he is tough and skilled on the ground. Wtf you think he's a god since he beat Fedor?

Andrei shouldn't have been in the tourney in the first place, especially against kharitonov. I feel it was a way too boost sergei's popularity in N.A. Phone Post

Fedor doesn't need to retire. Lost by quil submission and a tough fight. Eye got jacked up. Would have love to see a third round. Phone Post

I agree with OP except for Werdum. Give him his due, Karitoniv looked good, yes Andre is battered but I see Kharitoniv in th e final. Overeem is big and strong but not tested as of late. Werdum/overeem a toss up in my opinion Phone Post

Persian that is certainly one way to look at it but I think i would tend to disagree.

I really hope you are right about Sergei. I was always mystified why he wasn't fighting. Years of his prime have passed so it is good to see him in there.

As far as saying that two guys that weren't favored to win would walk thru the UFC, that is a vast overstatment that doens't hold water. It wasn't even true about strikeforce so how can you apply it to their chances in the UFC.

Its fun to speculate but Werdum was 2-2 in the UFC and he beat Bigfoot.

Again, what was the thought process that left Cormier out of this tournement. I just don't get it.

Sergei was getting dominated until he landed, on what we all know is now, a very suspect Arlovski chin.

Silva just got beat up by Werdum, Werdum looked average at best in the UFC.

Josh Barnett hasn't fought a credible opponent since god knows when, so who knows what he will look like.

Brett Rodgers got manhandled by Overeem...wasn't even competitive for a second.

That's my breakdown of Overeem's competition the rest of the tourney.

I really think that Overeem is going to get sweet revenge on Werdum and am a little surprised how much love Werdum is getting.

Sergei looked to me like Henderson v. Bisping. Complete disregard for Arlovski's striking. Just waded thru and landed his power shots.

I agree. Sergei wasn't impressive at all to me. He was getitng lit up by Arlovski standing and even with Arlovski's chin it took several bombs and upper cuts to put Andrei away.

After watching Fedor get manhandled and the continued deteoriation of Arlovski, I'm wondering if Barnett won't  go out with the rest of the past decades best fighters and get KO'd by Rogers.

I expect Overeem to KO Werdum in the first. The best fight left is Silva v Overeem as Silva may be able to get him down.

The next generation has arrived; BJ Penn, Matt Hughes, Chuck, Randy, Fedor, Arlovski, Tim Sylvia, Rich Franklin, Couture... their glory days are behind them, in some cases they're long gone.

You saw a career revival for Kharitonov,

Until in his next fight, Barnett takes him down easily and subs him like Monson did.

Sergei and Bigfoot wipe the floor with every ufc heavy besides Cain,JDS,Carwin, and I would not be surprised at all if they beat those guys

lol. Roy Nelson takes down Sergei and subs him. Bigfoot is no pushover but he lost to Werdum (WITHOUT being subbed), had trouble with Kyle, had trouble with Ricco, etc. I wouldn't pick him over any of the three you mentioned.
