Mortician- glad to hear. That one in MArch is the Michigan Open. With grappling really taking hold in Michigan these judo tournaments are great for beginners in all grappling categories to develope.

The talent level/performance was outstanding. More ippons than I have every seen a local tournament. Many in the kids div that kept us busy. Outstanding in the mens advanced(brown-black) were Tim Eschtruth 66K73K combined div. Outstanding 2 matches in 81k and 90K divisions between Dusty Moran (Southsside-Cohen)(2nd PLace) and Rioto (Japan) -1st place. Both competed in double divisions, Rioto (Troy Judo) is a National level player from Japan (3rd deg BB) working in Detroit area. future star judoka 15 yr old Harun Bogdonic took 3rd in 90K. Christian Gertitz (EMU) took first in the 100+k (220 on up)div. He threw guys weighing 240-300 all with drop seionage. Christian (205 lbs) fought up in weight as there were no other competitors in 100K. These local judo tournaments are excellent opportunnires for grapplers/BJJ players to sharpen their judo game and improve their grappling.

Best Konan in a long time. The tounament in March - Michigan Open- should have more competitors since it is the State Championships. I have been talking to those who missed the Konan and they plan to bring their team to the MO at MSU. These local are great opportunites to develope students grappling abilities.
