If a federal agency such as the secret servive calls and say that they have a warrant for your arrest and they give you a day that you can turn yourself in and you do, how long would it be before you are released or would they just keep you in there until trial?

The eighth amendment provides that:

"Excessive bail shall not be required."

However, that doesn't mean bail is always provided. Sometimes defendants are remanded until trial if they are considered particularly dangerous or a flight risk. Unless you went and murdered someone though, you should get bail. If you can't post it (or get enough collateral for a bail bondman), you will be stuck in the pokey until trial.

I hope that that hypothetical person spent that time to get and meet with a lawyer before turning himself in.
