Thank you, Mark, for the clarification.

Email can be hard sometimes with more subtle and complete meanings.

OK then...

I AM JKD...!!!

Or at least, I have filmed myself doing martial arts techniques...

DISCLAIMER:" I have never done the crazy BL yells/animal noises whilst sparring etc.

TRUE STORY:

A guy came to train with me a while back and told me:

"Bruce Lee said to always keep your strong side forward. So I think what you're teaching me is wrong"...

Maybe I'm not so JKD after all...

Buddy Rich,JKD to the max,for sure.Loved Bruce to bits.Back in the day,he used to ride on the bus with his big band.If he liked you as a member,he would invite you hang in his room at the back of the bus to smoke reefer, eat junk food, and watch Sony Betamax which would only spin 70,s porn and Kung Fu flix.

Buddy did not believe in style, being a complete musician was his credo. He saw that there was too many stylists in music,"I AM A COUNTRY DRUMMER,I AM A COUNTRY DRUMMER",etc.Like JKD/MMA,you are either into it as a whole,or,you are into categories/compartmentalisations.

Keith Hackneys Mullet - Ask this guy about JKD

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KU3dbJRcWw

OK. Listen. I don't know anything... k...??? Really. But, since were on MMA.com...

That clip just hurt my feelings...

He said "pussy cage fighters". (there is some real pathology there, IMO)

I feel so bad. Seriously.

The psychological and social implications of that statement alone are enough to make me walk away from all things "martial arts".

I can't take it anymore... It's all gotten so far outta hand...

Why is there so much antagonism? Everyone could just do there own thing and, yeah, that's cool.

Why do certain peeps want to be mean to certain other peeps. Sounds like a predatory assault, major law suit and serious jail time waiting to happen.

It hurts my heart...

I have noticed that several of the recent OJKD videos/books released over the past 5 years have been significantly better than the JKD releases of the 1980's and 1990's. Significantly better may be an understatement. They blow away a lot of the material released in prior generations.

Yoshi; In my first post I didn't mention anything about philosophy. That post was referring to people who have achieved perfect mechanical excellence in their craft, a quality in their craft. That quality for lack of a better name was called JKD....
No fuss right???...:-)

The Philosophy, that's different. When you buy your Bruce Lee action figure with the Wing Chun stance, it comes with a set of instructions. (the philosophy, the WAY the figure works). After you read the instructions you throw it back in the box and you get right to the action figure. If you followed the instructions to the T, Bruce will perform just perfect. If not you have to pull the instructions back out and start all over, but as you keep reading you find that the instructions are a little vague and there are parts missing, (as with almost every set of instructions).

The question is, why did we pull the instructions (the Philosophy) out again? Because Bruce was not working right, Bruce, the person, YOU, are not working right. The focus is on you, your performance your action, you're the reason for the instruction to begin with. The instructions (The Philosophy) well they just come in the box in case you need them.... ;-)

For those looking for a detailed intro into the basics of the original material, Tim Tackett and Chris Kent's new DVDs are good stuff.

I think Tackett's Chinatown JKD vol 1 and 2 are among the best books on the market for those looking for very detailed information on what the material is and how it should be taught.

Jeremy Lynch's DVDs are quite good as well.

Tommy Carruther's online training series is supposed to be tremendous.

Kent was a student of Inosanto and Kent does teach Kali. However, Kent has publicly put himself in the OJKD camp as he teaches the original material and does not blend it with other arts. (Kali is taught separately) He does not teach the many other arts that are taught in JKDC.
