When I applied to Toledo, it was ranked 85th. Now it's fourth tier. FML.

You go to Toledo? I have a couple questions.

Was the school a military post at some point?
And what's up with the ballistic missle by the stadium?

We are the Rockets, so the missile is the symbol of our school. Allegedly, it's pointed at our rival's stadium.

Georgetown will never move from 14 unless they get rid of the night program... which will never happen because of $$$. So I don't even bother to look.

No offense to Toledo, but you seem like you could do better.

There was an excellent article in the NY Times about how law schools try to manipulate their rankings (much to the detriment of their students who enter law school with unrealistic expectations).

The NYT interviewed one of our former deans for that article.

Don't pay any attention to the yearly fluctuations. After you get past the T14, mobility is limited. After the top 20, extremely limited. Toledo is what it always was: a law school with strictly regional placement.

Dropping as far as we have negatively impacts regional placement.

Not really. The alumni network still exists, and there is likely very little that the drop would do to change a hiring partner's impressions of the lawyers Dayton produces. US news really doesn't have as large an impact on hiring as many seem to think. The T14 will always get the first look, then the rest of the top 20, then down to top 50, then regional schools. Moritz will likely get the first looks, then after that stiff competition between the others with Case likely doing a bit better, despite its recent bar passage woes.

My point is: the fluctuations don't impact as heavily as you think they do. The economy on the other hand, hits hard.

Is dropping 60 points over three years a fluctuation?

Ask this year's largest drop: St. Johns and Hawaii. Again, there is little data which shows that such movement in the rankings of law schools outside Tier 1 has any impact on job placement.

Isn't job placement now a more important factor in the rankings?
