Got a new laptop (Intel i5, 4GB, 640GB).
I'm looking for some relatively basic multitrack recording software to do some session and live recording with. Hobby stuff.
It's been a loooooong time since I used Cakewalk or Garageband, so I have no idea what's decent now.

I don't need a big library of samples and canned tracks. Some drum tracks would be nice, but I'll be doing everything else myself. MIDI support is not required either.

What's cheap? What's good? And what should I be saving my money for?

I'm trying Kristal now. It's free.

I use Audacity, it's free and simple.

Thanks for the tips.
Kristal is cool and easy to use, but It seems a little lacking in the ability to split, join, or stretch audio tracks, which I need to do.
