Canadian Football League team to sponsor UFC 129's Mark Hominick

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are throwing their support behind a fellow countryman.

The Canadian Football League team today will announce a sponsorship/partnership with UFC 129 co-headliner Mark Hominick, who fights featherweight champ Jose Aldo next week in Toronto.

Hominick will wear Tiger-Cats gear as part of his walkout for the April 30 title fight, MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned.

As part of the deal, Hominick's UFC 129 gear will be adorned with Tiger-Cats logos. He'll also be honored at a Tiger-Cats home game this summer.

It's one of the rarer sponsorship deals in recent MMA history.

How rare is this? The Sacramento Kings have sponsored Urijah for a long time, I think they even sponsored Diego.

Thats good that he will be honored at a game this summer.

 Awesome for Mark!

He's fighting in the Tiger Cat's rivals arena too.

Maybe the Argo's will pay him double to steal the sponsorship fro the Ti-Cats  ;)

Heres an interesting resource that confirms what you say. I did some additional looking, and it does appear that the Kings are the only Pro sports team to sponsor a fighter.

(shows you under Bud Light, DPMS, Hayabusa, MTX, Performance, and Warrior).

Regardless, this would be a first in Canada, and only the second pro sports team to do this, so I think saying its rare is a fair statement.
