For nearly 15 years Dan Henderson and Fedor Emelianenko have enjoyed two of the most extraordinary careers in the history of Mixed Martial Arts. When word surfaced they they were in negotiation to fight, the collective consensus was simple - this is a great fight.

The stated stumbling block is nothing short of crazy - Fedor who has fought at Heavyweight his entire career wants it at a catchweight at 220, whereas Henderson, who fought last year at 185, wants the match at heavyweight. Several reports indicate that that is not the true problem, and that both sides are onbiard at any weight.

It appears that the real issue is fighter compensation, and whether the fight will be on PPV or Showtime - Fedor's management company, M-1 Global, has a co-promotional agreement with Strikeforce for shows in which he fights.

With the UFC recent purchase of Strikeforce, a logical assumption would be that UFC President Dana White steps in and brokers an agreement. White however remains bitter about failed negotiations with Fedor's management, a group he collectively refers to as "crazy Russians."

"I've been out of it," said White on Thursday. "Me involved in that situation would only make matters worse. The great thing about this company and the way we do things – there's a lot of people I butt heads with. Lorenzo can handle it, and then I can handle stuff. Joe Silva handles stuff."

"Lorenzo's working on it," White said. "Me getting anywhere near that thing? You'll never see that fight."

In addition, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, who maintianed his role in the company following its buyout by UFC, has said for weeks he's working hard to make the fight happen.

For sure. He's the one clearing up the mess after DFW butts head with someone usually.

Anyone else not really interested in this fight?

I love Hendo, but he recently lost to Sheilds. Shouldn't Fedor be fighting a heavyweight?

slamming - Lorenzo will show those crazy Russians what a real OG is.

Fedor will likely take a pay cut, and Vadim will shut his dirty mouth out of respect for Lorenzo.

OK... Knowing Lorenzo personally, this made me LMAO...!!!!!

I will never understand why it takes so much drama to get 1 fight out of Fedor's Management. They have really hurt his recent image. Fedor has always seemed like a guy that would fight anyone, anywhere, anytime, then again Nog did say he refused to fight Crocop at first, but again it was probably his ridiculous management.

Sherdog already reported a couple of days ago that Fedor and M-1 have already "agreed to the fight with Dan Henderson at heavyweight," and "asked that bout agreements be distributed as soon as possible."
...Emelianenko's management confirmed to Sherdog.com on Tuesday that Emelianenko has agreed to lock horns with Henderson this summer. Though a catch-weight was initially discussed, it now appears that the fight will take place where Emelianenko has fought the entirety of his career.

"Fedor and M-1 have previously agreed to the fight with Dan Henderson at heavyweight," said Evgeni Kogan, M-1 Global director of operations.
...
"There have been no hang-ups from M-1 in any of these matters," said Kogan. "We've agreed that this bout would take place in mid-summer and have been equally clear on our acceptance of the fight being either a Showtime event or a Showtime pay-per-view."

Speaking with an additional source close to M-1 Global, Sherdog.com learned that Emelianenko's camp has asked that bout agreements be distributed as soon as possible.

"No special terms have been requested for the fight," said Kogan. "Communication and discussions have been normal and we're now waiting for the go-ahead, [after] which Fedor will begin his focused training camp, some of which has already been planned to take place in the Netherlands."

So I guess we'll see if they really put their pens where their mouths are and sign the contract - but according to them, at this point they're ready for those bout agreements to be distributed.

(And btw, Hendo's business partner and manager posted on a thread here, debunking the claim that catch-weight was really the sticking point in the negotiations - specifically stating that "weight was not the issue" - and indicating that PPV cut was the real issue instead. Although M-1 is apparently now claiming that they have agreed to accept the fight, regardless of whether it is a Showtime event or a PPV.)

My impression was always that it took CroCop knocking out Alexander to finally get Fedor to fight him.

Props to Lorenzo, I'd rather play with broken glass than try and make a deal or negotiate one with M-1. Phone Post

I am a huge fan of both fighters, but move on already. I would greatly prefer to see Fedor compete at heavyweight and see Hendo fight someone like Mousassi. It seems almost like this fight is being setup so that people can take away from any potential Fedor victory or to celebrate any potential defeat by arguing that in Henderson, Fedor was simply matched up against a blownup middleweight.
