GSP: "Fighting is about efficiency"

ESPN Sport Science's John Brenkus examines the extraordinary physical abilities of Georges St. Pierre.

Stamina:
GSP's Anaerobic Threshold (where he starts to develop lactic acid and fatigue) is at most fighters maximum. When they hit the ceiling, GSP is at 85%.

Strength:
GSP's punch registers at 2859 lbs of force
GSP's kick registers at 3477 lbs of force
GSP's Right-Left-Left Low kick combo registers at 6000+ lbs of force in .98 of a second

Speed:
GSP's high double generates 2400 watts of power in 1.17 second (similar to what Rashad Evans tested for, but Rashad is two weight classes up)
GSP's superman punch moves at 15 feet/second (twice as fast as his normal punch)

Comparison:
In prrevious episodes of Sport Science some of the most formidable fighters in the UFC were tested. The numbers are so dramatically lower that some other factors must have come into play, like a different heavy bag, or gloves, making a direct comparison suspect.
Cain Velasquez's punch is 2230 lbs of force.
Rampage Jackson's punch is 1800 lbs of force.
Shogun Rua's kick is 2749 lbs of force.

Cain's was an overhand right.  GSP's was a jab.  Which makes it even more impressive imo.

I'm tempted to call bullshit if this is the case.

lol i enjoy the SS programs, however bias or subjected the seem. Well done GSP for beating every1 on a level playing field...cough cough.
One thing that is puzzling me, it takes only a few pounds of pressure to KO a man, why hasn't he stopped no1 in a while with his 6000+ combo. Just wondering,

Im sure there i some1 out there who can put together a small table of all the above fighters ko stats. Would be interesting.

I'm just pointing out how the article itself literally even points out that comparing the hit ratings GSP had with the others directly was suspect.

would you all agree that dan henderson has some huge knockout power?  yes?  ok.  now go look at his record.  why doesn't he have a string of knockouts?  because there is more to it than power.

that, and GSP fights smart or cautious (safe to some of you) so he doesn't go for knockout finishes against dangerous opponents.  he has many ways to win, and goes with the option that promises higher success rates.

I wonder if there is different equipment used for different weight classes.

If so, its unfair to compare.

Fabricated hype. There is no chance that GSP hits harder than Rampage or kicks harder than Shogun. Where are all the KO's? Phone Post

How is it that you guys a re shocked that arguably the best pound for pound fighter in the world has off the charts measurements. Specially since he has spent this camp working on POWER and being more explosive. Lol at sports science being bias?! Are you guys for real?! Phone Post

This really doesn't surprise me.

Anyone who's boxed with people that really know how to box, ie sit on their punches and use their hips/step into jabs and such wouldn't be THAT surprised.

I've been hit harder by a guy who weighed 145lbs than people who have weighed much heavier.

Because he's a fucking welterweight and doesn't hit harder than LHW's and HW's. They also said that Cain hits harder than all of the pro boxers before...it's interesting and fun to watch, but it's bullshit, and they always do it right before a UFC ppv to get ppl hyped.
