Ryan Loco - Joe, let me know if you wanna try a Jaco Guardian cup as well.

Not a slight at Diamond MMA, I know many people who use theirs and love it.

Drop me an email at rloco@jacoclothing.com

Sweet, I would love to try it. I sent you an email.

I dont have any clue if/what kind of cup Foster was wearing so i wont comment. But you rarely see nutshot stoppages in K-1 or Muay Thai in Thailand. If you wear a steel cup with the g-string up your ass that fucker aint moving

I think a lot of fighters in MMA overestimate their "size"

BlahBreh - If you change the glove it'll be disadvantage to grapplers

I'm not sure it would. My idea is that having the finger tips covered in a thin layer of leather would actually provide a bit more traction and be a slight advantage.
It's just an idea, though. It remains to be seen how it would work in practice.

I thought of a glove with extended bits on the back of your hand that reach up to your fingertips and tie up at the top, the thumb is also covered, (maybe use a gel so it isn't bulky and doesn't annoy the fighter) so your palms are still visible and have full motion.

But I guess they have to be custom manufactured for each fighter :(

The alleged added traction of a leather 'finger cup' would likely be frowned upon, Joe. Not by you or I, but by some halfwit bureaucrat thinking he's doing us a favor.

Some mutation of MMA training style gloves might help, but any time you have exposed fingers...you'll have a poke hazard.

I remember someone posting photos here of a prototype glove that had designed to help prevent eye pokes

not sure what the actual design looked like but I thought it looked like a good idea at the time

gonna have to search for it

You know, I don't remember this happening as often back in the day. Selective memory, or has something changed?

EEKS -
MMALOGIC - Joe, look up the vibram 5 fingers. It's a shoe that simulates barefoot walking.

If something like this can be turned into a glove it would greatly mitigate the pokes.

How so?

It thickens and dulls the edges of the fingers making it harder to enter the eye.

Anything more than this would likely hurt grappling and even hurting grappling just a little is not worth solving the eye poke problem. Grappling is a huge part of the game and eye pokes are just too few and far between.

The only other solution I can think of would be a glove like a webbed foot. Like a ducks foot.

Also a pre-fight manicure wouldn't hurt, for some of the fighters.

It's such a tough thing about this sport. Grappling requires flexibility in the hands but eye pokes are so dangerous. It's something that may never be fixed, just something this sport has to cope with. It's usually a poke when they are measuring up the opponent, it's rarely from a true strike. Phone Post

Obviously this would be something UFC will have to push for for it to go anwer. Joe, do you know how receptive Dana or Lorenzo will be for pushing for a new glove? Phone Post

There's probably no place on Joey's body you could hit that wouldn't involve his nuts somehow.

Do these rounded gloves make any difference?  I've never used them but I imagine that if there was a rounded portion of the glove to go over the fingers and create a long connected protected strip of foam, instead of a single digit hanging out, it would prevent pokes.  The thumb is always a problem though, even with larger boxing gloves.

I get what Joe's talking about. You take the finger-sheath from this:

<img src="http://www.cogeian.com/speedbaggloves.jpg" />

And attach it across the ends of the fingers of a regular MMA glove. If you could make it out of a semi-flexible material (but not so flexible that a single finger could make a point to poke an eye with) you'd be in good shape.

ttt for Fight Mittens!

Officials have to keep on reminding fighters to keep their hands balled up in a fist. Its starts with the rules meeting in the back and keep enforcing/reminding fighters during the fight. However, one can't be penalized for not doing it.

How the fuck are goggles going to stay on when you're scrambling to get out of a guillotine attempt? Are you guys seriously that fucking high. Do you know what would happen to your orbital bones from taking heavy blows on these goggles? It isolates the force into an oval instead of dispersing around the bone structure.

Tap yourself in the eye with a boxing glove. Then put a pair of goggles on and do the same thing.

For the last time.

The goggles do nothing!
